Howdy all. Just picked up a 24v Savage in .30/.30 and 20 gauge. Have only reloaded for tubular magazines in that caliber. Went through my casings and picked out the cases with .059 thickness or better rims. Lo and behold they were 90 percent Federal. Did this after reading forum posts on other sites that have had ignition issues. Loose tolerances and thin rims seemed to be part of the issue other then weak springs and poor cleaning practices.

So now being a single shot combo firearm, I can use spire pointed bullets instead of having to use round nose by default. I also realize this is not a bolt action rifle so one can't load the heck out of this cartridge. Thanks for your input.

Try out some 125-150gr bullets, like Hornady's SST and Noslers Ballistic Tip.

If you want something for hunting and your not afraid to buy a premium bullet, a 130gr Barnes TTSX would probably work fantastic if it shoots well from that rifle.
