Hi there,

New to the community and just got my brand new 58, so please bear with me. So for the first time, I took it out shooting, I cleaned the barrel and action. Loaded a mag with surplus ammo and went to shoot it and nothing. Only a click. Tried to clear the action but it is jammed.

Upon furthur inspection the round is in the chamber, but the action is not pushed all the way forward. When I try and pull back on the action it will only move about 1".

So I removed the rear housing and tried to disassemble it, but the whole forward action is jammed and the round is still chambered.

Any recommendations on what to do next would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers,

Dave

Find a wooden post or the edge of a workbench.
Hold the rifle securely and smack the bolt handle against the side of the post or bench.
Make sure you move the rifle in the proper direction.;)

Or give the bolt handle a whack with a rubber mallet.

Either way, you just need to apply some force to the handle.

Thanks.
While I did not do full cleaning I did take the action apart and cleaned it and lubricated it. I did not touch the trigger group.

So all I have to do is wack the action back towards the rear with a hammer? Will this not damage anything?

Thanks.

Can you see the round moving or is it firmly stuck?

If the round is moving freely there may be something wrong inside the receiver preventing the bolt carrier from moving rearward.

The slide only moves back and forth about 1/4 ". I think it is the play in it. I tried forcing the slide back against the bench with no luck.

I wish I knew gun parts better.

The fluted cylinder that the smaller spring goes
into is loose, but will only come about halfway back.

What you're calling the "slide" is the bolt carrier.

If you have the receiver cover off, push the "fluted cylinder" (striker) all the way into the bolt. The round part on it fits into the recess in the back of the bolt carrier. There's a small keyed part that needs to be lined up to fully seat it. If the striker is not fully seated it could explain why the rifle did not fire. It wouldn't have the reach to hit the firing pin.

Have you checked the videos in the VZ FAQ at the top of the forum?

Unfortunately I do not have Internet here. Only going by my I pod.

I pushed the striker all the way forward. The carrier still won't budge. It seems the extractor is locked on to the round inside the chamber. I am hesistant to drive the round back from the barrel as it is a live round.

The carrier is jammed and is not all the way forward. It is about 1/2" back from being all the way forward. It seems the extractor is locked on the round. But the carrier will not move forward or backwards.

i hate it when you get a live round stuck, but that muzzle pointed in a safe direction and smack that bolt handle with a good dead blow mallet. what ever you do dont stick anything in the barrel( big fat no no)

Post pics? Don't really know how. I have an iPhone but no real Internet access. I could email them to someone though...

Thanks a million lone wolf.

These photos show where the carrier is jammed. Also can be seen the extractor locked on to the cartridge. Besides wacking the carrier backwards with a soft mallet, any other recommendations?

I'd just hit the bolt handle with a 2x4 and have a rag or something in the rear to cushion the receiver when it flys back. I had to smack them pretty hard to get a broken case out.

Or wait till tomorrow and see what stevo or someone else says. They'd have more experience than me.

in picture 5/11 i can see you have a broken case, i had that happen to my sks, lucky enough i had a broken shell extractor on me in my cleaning kit and it popped out with ease
