hello all

I have some spare parts lying around, so I think I would like to build a mauser. I bought a stock, complete with all the metal bits, awhile ago, which I thought was for a Peruvian mauser, but turned out to be a Spanish 1943 (I think). I also have a complete action from a 98 Mauser. My thinking is that if I can get a barrel, I can make a frankenmauser (Spanish 43 look alike) out of this stuff. My question is, what type of barrel should I get? Would a K98 barrel work out, or how about a Yugo M48? Any mauser experts out there?

What calibre do you want? We can get military stepped barrels in 8x57, 7x57 and 6.5x55 from Heym. We have Heym sporter barrels which are short chambered and threaded for Mauser.

The Yugoslav Mausers are just a bit too different to use parts interchangeably with the German Mausers.

There is nothing wrong with making a rifle to shoot and have for fun. Use the parts that are appropriate and that will work safely. After that have fun.

I'm thinking of staying with 8mm. When done, the rifle will "look" like a 1943 Spanish mauser, but will be a mish mash of parts. I figured that the yugo stuff might be a bit different. I have read (could be wrong) that the yugo mauser are intermediate length, while the German is a bit longer.
