I need to get a scope on my 455 American .22lr, but could really use some input from you CZ owners.

This gun will be used mainly for small game and also some plinking and 50 yd benchrest shooting for fun.

I'm thinking 3-9x40? I really like the Vortex Crossfire II I have on my RAR. The Vortex optics seem to have quite a large ocular bell, which doesn't bother me on my RAR, but the CZ has less bolt handle clearance, so I'd like something with a smaller ocular bell.

I want the scope to sit as low as possible over the bore. Don't want to have to use high rings just to get the bolt clearance I need.

What scope would you recommend gor this setup?

I plan to use Burris Signature Zee rings, because I like them and have a couple sets of them in my parts box (medium and high 1 inch.)

I bought a set of JnP adaptor bases, but didn't realize they were plastic when I bought them. Has anyone tried these? Thoughts? Any issues with them? I really like that they are small and don't use set screws as opposed to the full length DIP rail.

Prophet River sells this EGW rail.

Any thoughts on this one?

Thanks.

Edit: Feel free to post pics of your setups!

The J&P adapters seem to work well.
Check out rimfire central for info.
Here's some stuff on scopes and ring combos.

I used the D.I.P. rail on mine in the past but have changed over to the BKL high rimfire rings for shooting BR50 as they suit the BR thumbhole stock and 8-32x scope I am using.
No hunting with mine,it weighs #10+ with stock, scope ,rings and BR adapter plate.
Good luck with yours!

Just got a Bushnell (Legend Ultra-HD series) 4.5-14 x 44 for mine. Chinese made but the glass is good.
Nice price point for a side turret AO scope.

I had a Leupold VX2 3-9x33 EFR on my 455 American for quite a while, mounted in Warne medium rings.
While I really liked the scope for quality and clarity, it's since been sold.
Depending on your preferences, you may need offset rings to get the Leupold far enough back.
No problems with rear bell clearance. Nice looking combination, too.

I bought a CZ 452 Varmint, & a Sightron STAC 4-20x50.
I use a DIP Rail, & the rings are High 30mm Burris Signature Zee Rings.
There is about an eighth of an inch clearance between the open bolt handle and the power ring of the scope.
I do not know if this will help you, but I am very happy with the results.

The J&P adapters are designed to work with the Burris Signature Zee rings. If you have the correct ones you will be quite pleased with them. I've used them and can say they work very well.

CZ455 American (top) with a DIP rail and a Weaver 4-16 x 42 scope.
CZ455 Varmint (bottom) with Leupold high Ring Mounts and a Burris 4.5-14 x 42.
I have had the Burris on the American and the picture shows the clearance.

I don't think there are many scopes that will allow the bolt to clear without high rings. Both set ups keep the scopes about as low as possible.
Both scopes have adjustable objectives.

Thanks to everybody for the suggestions.

I ended up getting a Bushnell Ultra Elite 3-9×40 for now. Seems like an alright scope for the money.

I was going to use the Burris Signature Zee rings (high,) because I have some in my parts box, and because I don't want to mess around with lapping, but they are too high for my liking. I went to get a set of medium ones yesterday, but they didn't have any, so I got these Leupold rings. They are the perfect height.

It says on the box that they don't require lapping. Thoughts on this? I don't have the tools to lap them myself, so I'd have to take it to somebody else to do it for me.

I want the rifle to be accurate and don't want to damage my scope. Should I have these rings lapped?

It's a bit of an investment, but I highly recommend getting the Wheeler 1" and 30mm lapping and alignment bar set if you aren't using Burris rings with inserts. They will last you forever, and they will take the guess work out of scope mounting.
After you've lapped a couple rifle combinations, the tools have paid for themselves, too.

Thats exactly what I used as well on my rifle, It a good setup that works well.

I know, but I just can't justify it now. I don't (and probably won't) have many rifles that require scopes and I'm trying to save money.

4-12 would be good. Even a 4-16. You can always dial down for hunting. Its just how big of a scope you want to carry around in the bush. Its not really THAT big of a deal im just a big aesthetics guy.

I like a nice slick low profile 3-9 on my small game rigs but they are not for bench rest plinking.
