Hey, i want to put a scope on my M94 angle eject.

I have a nikon prostaff 3-9x40 to put on it. I already know wich weaver base to use my question is regarding the rings...

I looked at weaver rings, there is the see thru one that would fit fine but im afraid that my scope will be too high. My other choice is the normal weaver rings but i dont know wich height to use (medium, hight or extra high)

I dont need to see my iron sight.

I actually did a poll here a few years ago to see how many people who had see-through rings had ever shot game with the iron sights. Basically, no-one. I'd just use medium rings.

Back 50 years ago, scopes were less forgiving and harder to get on target quickly. Modern scopes are not prone to that. My closest-ever shot on a running deer was less than 15 feet, using a 3-9 scope dialed down to 3X.

Glad to hear you are not going with see through. Very dangerous.

If you ever take a hunting shot with the irons, you will have no idea where the scope is. It might be a half inch from your skull.

If you are in a tree stand, you could be knocked to the ground.

Weaver "Grand Slam" rings are a very good ring,..they have 4 screws per ring, and they are steel,..price is usually around $40.00.
I would prefer a 1-4x20 or 1.5-4.5x32 or 2-7x33,..I think a 3-9 would be ok but a bit of over kill and perhaps make a light quick handling 94 a little top heavy,...but that's just my 2 cents, everyone is different and my advice is you need to do what makes you happy.

Also,..to answer your original question,...if you do go with a 40mm objective scope you will probably need atleast "High" rings for the objective to clear the rear sight. I would go with a smaller objective and keep the scope as low as possible.

I wouldn't use those ugly Weaver rings even if they were free! They just look soooooooo massive and they roll the scope a bit when tightening down! Get Leupold or Burris rings. Try med first, if you can go lower, you can get low and also even super low in Leupold. I like to have a cig paper or two clearance.

Have you seen the new Weaver "Grand Slam" rings?,...they are totally different. They are the same style as the Leupold and Burris but have 4 screws instead of 2.....http://www.weaveroptics.com/rings_bases/rings/grandslam_steel/

I have always disliked the old style weavers for the same reasons you mentioned,..they look sh!ty and they twist the scope when tightened down,.....but the Grand Slams are excellent in all ways,..try a set sometime,..I bet you will like them.

When I hunted deer in Quebec (Eastern Townships), all my shots were under 100 yards. Most were under 50.

So I would install a 2.5X shotgun scope on the rifle. Simple, strong, fast to aim reticle, and parallax adjusted for 75 yards instead of 125. That would use low rings, for a comfortable and fast cheek weld.

I must admit I have not looked at them, but I see no need for 4 screws per each! It's hard to teach an old dog new tricks, as they say. I think this old dog is stuck in his ways with Leupold and Burris rings, but I do thank you for the suggestion to take a look. I will do that and see what happens!

Right on two-dogs,...I don't think the Grand Slams are any better than Leupold or burris but they are another good ring option at a decent price,..and as for the 4 screws part?,...it's probably more of a sales pitch than an advantage, lol,..kinda the same as the 4 screws per base on the X-Bolt.

Roll the scope? With Grand Slams? I don't see how, considering it's a straight-down-screw design, just like Leupold.......

ahhh....I see someone already got there.

A straight 4x Leupold preferably...........I'm shooting 1/2" groups at 100 yards with one on my Marlin 45-70 with both 300gr + 350gr handloads........Harold

For another opinion I liked a Leu 2.5X Compact M8, todays 2.5X20 Ultralight, on a 444 Marlin with Weaver base and rings. My longest shot was a moose at 175 paces down a cutline. The scope has huge eye relief nearly 5" and will fit with any ring height I expect. The 2.5 power suits a lever action best and the scope adds very little weight if a guy researches decent light weight rings. Light transmission is better than one thinks with an exit pupil of 8

A low mounted low power scope is like an optical peep sight! I took mine off and returned to the Williams FP as a scope just ruined how nice a lever carries. These days if I hunted it might come back due to eyesight. If it went back on it would be with QD rings for iron backup. If a variable is still wanted Leu makes a little 2-7X28 Ultralight. My choice would be 1-4 range.

That Winchester will make a nice hunting rifle with your plan.
