Help select 5.56 semi under $2k

If I lived in downtown Toronto,Tavor
Just plinking , SU16
AR style/range/ hunting/Etc,Raven

Raven on a site sponsor, in stock , $2200 and it’s ready to go.
I added a trigger tech,CTR stock and a 13 1/2 hand guard for approximately $370.

Getting bad when you have to go to a Gun Ban Org to find what is on the market for gun owners interested in getting a semi?

I have a 4” gong set up at 300 yards and holding 2 moa for drop and 2 moa for wind I had no problem hitting it with Hornady Match ammo out of my Raven 5.56. I’ve owned a lot of different black rifles and this thing is the most fun you can have with your clothes on.

Only way I’d invest in the Raven is via the builders kit. I’ve heard too many mixed reviews on the complete rifles and the stock barrels. I think it’s still too early to call the Raven a reliable platform. Saving up for an X95 or BREN is probably the best way to spend your money. YMMV.

Correction - what you have heard are too many mixed reviews from newbie owners complaining about reliability with a fully tunable "Internal Piston" / "Direct Impingement" system that they don't have a clue how to adjust, let alone optimize. Seriously, I have lost count of the new Raven owners whose reliability issues have magically disappeared with a bit of educated direction regarding the tuning of their rifle's Gas System.

The FACT is that the Raven in its current form with the Gen 2 Bolt Carrier and factory Barrel with adjustable Gas System, is mechanically MORE reliable than your average AR15 with its fixed gas port size and frequently over-gassed operating system. The Raven can be tuned to optimize the gas flow so that it is adequate for reliable function but not over-gassed. The same cannot be said for an AR15 with a fixed Gas Port.

For those who haven't quite figured it out yet, the Raven is basically an AR15 with an adjustable Gas Sytem, swappable Mag Well and slightly enlongated Receiver Halves, Bolt Carrier, Firing Pin and Top Charging Handle in order to create a proprietary Receiver and Internals. Their functional differences are negligible...

Took me a bit of messing around with the adjustable GB as it was the first time I’ve used one, but once I got the hang of it , it runs like a top.
I am having one small issue though, sometimes the bolt won’t close all the way when I release the CH on the first round.
Just a couple mm and I can easily press it all the way.

Any thoughts on that?

Maybe not broken in yet?

Are you certain you are releasing the CH at the end of its stroke? People have a tendency to ride the charge handle just a bit before releasing it, which can cause problems.

Happens when I push the the bolt/catch release as well.
I’ll give it a good shot of lube and see if that makes a diff.

avoid them all, T97 gen 3 is the best bang for your buck, or you could try your luck with a gen 2 raven. smartest move would be to save your money and get a X95.

I'm still rocking my Gen 1 with the FTU coming up on 10 years this November. Only 1 issue and it turned out being the mag. None since. The T97 is a solid rifle if you like bullpups, aren't left handed, and don't have a bias towards Norinco. The thing just works.

If you need some more choices, no prices, but Polysesouvient has a nice 14 page spread called "Not Prohibited Can someone Please Explain Why"...might be some other calibers in there as well..

That was fun. How many Alexander Arms Ulfberh in 338 Lapua actually exist in Canada to be a credible threat in their nightmares?
I had to also laugh how they are offended by the absolute abortion of a rifle...Kodiak Scorpio SKS-15. Can we give them that one in lets say a prohib prisoner exchange, lol.

Warning to youngsters, avert your eyes:

C68 banned the HK G11 by name, even though the rifle was never produced for sale and never got out of the R&D phase. It did, however, appear in Guns & Ammo etc and it looked scary so the lieberals mindlessly added it to the ban. You should never look for sense or logic in gun bans.

I saw one of these in a gun store last year. The guy behind the counter was like "It's been here since they went on sale. Nobody even wants to look at it" lol.

They'd be an ok rifle if they weren't an abomination to take apart to clean.

And thanks HyeProfile for the analysis.

I love the raven - if only you could walk into a store and buy one. Or maybe a 2 week lead time. 16week is crazy. I understand it’s Canada and this is our landscape but we gotta be able to do better than this in terms of accessibility.
