Help shooting reliably to 500yards

jimbo14, consider adjusting your body position and location of the buttpad relative to your shoulder pocket. I also pay alot of attention to the comb and its height/width/location. When set properly, the MPOD will not do anything but track back and forth in a straight line. I use the position of the reticle AFTER firing to judge how well (or not) my set up and position is.
Yes, I’ve been doing that since I started using the MDT bipod for PRS practice. I’ve been focused on handgun stuff, but now that the local IPSC season is over, I’ll be doing more rifle work. I’ll bring out the MPOD again to see how it tracks with my improved fundamentals.

Thanks for your comment.

If your range is only 200 yards and you want to become a decent 500 yard shooter consider buying a 22 lr to train with. The ballistics of a 22 lr are similar to the ballistics of a 308 at 500 yards.

Also if you want to become a good shot you need an accurate rifle with an accurate load. When shooting and the bullet lands over there you want to know that either you did something that caused the miss or the conditions wind caused the miss. then you can learn to control the rifle and read the conditions, but if your gun is not capable of accuracy then you will end up chasing your tail.

"I'm biased, but best bang for the buck would be to hit up an event from Project Mapleseed next year. Covers the fundamentals, and it's inexpensive. Check the Project Mapleseed website in late winter/early spring of 2024. Traditionally there are a always a couple of events near Calgary. These always fill up fast."

This sounds like such a great event - thanks for posting about it!
