Just picked a rather sweet Rock River Arms 9MM AR and will be taking it to the range tomorrow for it's 'maiden voyage'.
I have iron sights as well as a co-witnessed Aimpoint Micro on a Larue high mount...
Just wondering on what people think about the appropriate sighting in range.
I was thinking that 50Yrds/metres would be the best compromise.
I plan on using it in the upcoming CQB matches at Base Borden.
I await your input with interest.....

I have found that with mine (RRA, 7" barrel) that 25, 50, 75 and even 100 yards are all about the same for sighting. I found that a bit surprising originally, but after lots of "testing" :p that does certainly appear to be the case. At close (pistol) range, I find I have to aim a couple inches high to hit where I want. Like, maybe 2 inches (on the paper) high at 10 yards. But, for whatever reason, once it gets out to 25 yards or so, it seems to impact where you put the red dot.

I think the natural "territory" of these guns is 25-75 yards, so I would sight mine in for 50. But as I say, if it is anything like my set-up, you find that sighted in for 25 is the same thing.

What I use is this: EOtech co-witness set-up with Midwest Industries flip-up sights, although I generally shoot with just the front sight up (as shown in the pics). Fantastic firearm. So much fun. You will love yours.

Exactly what he said. Sight in at 25 yds to begin with just in case windage is off and go from there. Not much sight adjustment to do elevation wise out to 100 yds. You will find you all of a sudden have a lot of friends when you start to shoot this gun. Be warned.

What you're referring to is called your offset. The difference between the bore line and your sight line. At close ranges the offset is noticeable and requires you to "hold over" on your target. As the distance increases the offset issue diminishes.

Optics mounted to carry handle(A2) uppers exhibit extreme offset issues and are far from ideal for close range work which is why flattop(A3) uppers are so popular.

ETA: To the OP. As for sighting in, 25-50 yards would do fine, depending on what range(s) you intend to shoot.
