HELP! SKS - how to remove the receiver cover?

Yes, I know to rotate the take-down lever on the receiver cover counter-clockwise and then pull it out!

The damn cover won't budge. I know it should slide back and off.

How far out from the receiver should the take down lever move? Mine moves about 1/4" at most.

Mine rotates all the way around, but will only slide out when the lever is pointing strait up, maybe use a little rubber mallet

First things first, make sure it's not cocked (pull the trigger)

then you should be able to push it a little forward and then lift up...
it's spring loaded make sure you are holding it...

if you need too a little persausion can be used... once it moves its coming...

dont need to pull the triger cuz even cocked there is no tention on the recoil spring but close the action to release the presure, lever up and try to pull it out while the lever is upwards hold your tumb behind the top cover incase

Thanks, the push forward and lift up did it once the take down lever was fully pulled out. The online instructions don't say the lever needs to come almost all the way out!!
