Help!! SKS seized up??

I have a SKS-d norinco i believe and i didnt shoot it for a year and went to fire it off and it only shoots one round and doesnt kick the bolt open. I figure the gas operation pin that kicks the bolt open is seized due to not cleaning after shooting cheap corrosive ammo. Now before I get a bunch of smart a$$ remarks about not cleaning it yeah yeah i know i should have but the problem still remains. So im asking if anyone has had this happen and if there is a easy way to get it cycling again..Also to those who think the solution is to buy a new one...lets put this way id rather spend my money on something black! Thanks in advance for any positive advice.

Have you taken the gas tube off and taken a look?

Could also be the piston, you dont even need tools to take it apart and take a look.

learn how to take it apart , then take it apart , CLEAN IT , reassemble it and enjoy .......

then after your done shooting it next time , take it apart ( you should be good at it by now ) clean it , oil it , reassemble it and put it away .

btw the stuff that makes ammo corrosive is water based , so to remove it you need a water based solvent . i like ammonia and water ( straight ammonia also works well on copper fouling ) , windex or most other glass cleaners work well too .

My bet is a stuck case. Not the piston. Take a piece of 2x4 and give the bolt a good sharp rap with it. Or bang the bolt open on the side of a heavy desk or table.

Oh yeah, and clean your damned gun!!!:D

I agree with the above guys. Take it apart, clean it well.

Check the following:

-Rust or crud in the chamber, this could get the cases stuck.
-Blocked or rusted piston/gas chamber, enough rust and junk will jam the gas port shut or lock the piston head.
-Rust on the short push rod.

It's a Soviet era surplus, these little bastards almost never break down to the point that requires a new one.

You may have a problem with a stuck case.

I had that problem once with a spent case, so I had my brother carefully run a steel rod down the barrel (Taking care to minimize contact with the rifling) and tap the case loose.

Make sure the chamber, piston and the action are cleaned, and kept well lubricated during active shooting. That should keep your gun from malfunctioning.

Take apart and clean - SKS's are tough so don't worry 99% chance it will work again. If it won't come apart soak for a couple days in Varsol with a bit of motor oil. The detergents will eat the corrosion.
