Me and my buddy ordered SKS rifles. Mine was 1952 and his a 1954 both from Tula factory. We cleaned all the cosmoline off them and he was not able to dry fire it but I can dry fire mine. Its like his sear or something is not engaging. Does anybody have an idea as to what the problem is? Please help.

Yes the safety is off as well.

it is something to do with the trigger assembly so pull it out and have a look. there are tons of pics for what it should look like so just visually compare them. Also, have a look at the sks trigger job videos on youtube as they will give a pretty good overiew of how all the components work together.

No on can give you specific advice on how to fix it becuase we dont know what the specific problem is. Sorry man, best of luck.

I would also like to add that his hammer is at the fully cocked position.

when the guns are pinned to the legal 5 rounds, they are taken apart and then reassembled.try taking it apart(do you know how?)it may be improperly put back together.
once it is apart, grab the trigger group and push down on the disconnector(the metal piece that sticks up @ an angle in front of the trigger)just a bit and while holding the hammer pull the trigger.that disconnector has to be pushed down just right or it dosen't work.if the hammer falls(under control so it dosen't pinch you or slam forward too hard) then your trigger group is fine.
reassemble--should be good to go...

Yeah its kinda tough to explain but basically the triggerbar won't make contact with the sear or something and therefore the hammer will not go forward which I believe is a requirement to take part the trigger group...

Sounds like the trigger is not properly installed in the rifle. Please check to see if it is and post back your resualts.
Here is a video for you to follow ;)

Make sure the trigger group has been pushed in properly. I lay it on the carpet, bottom side up and push it down with the palm of my hand until I hear it engaged.

I once had a similar problem, hammer moves forward but won't strike the pin. Turns out the trigger mechanism was not properly seated.

Let me clarify the problem. The trigger group is installed properly in the rifle. I know this because I have an SKS that is working fine. My friend's SKS however is not. The hammer is fully cocked and will not release. Is it possible to take the entire trigger group apart with the hammer cocked?

It won't release when the trigger group is out? Did you press the disconnector down before trying to release the hammer? You have to press it down part way, not all the way otherwise it will just catch on the disconnector bar (half ####). If that's not the issue, then yes you can take it apart when cocked, just be careful because springs might fly

Yes you can, knock out the pin that holds in the mag release. Don't let it go flying out or you may end up crawling around looking for the spring and release. Slowly let them off and the pressure will release the sear, which in turn will drop the hammer (do not have any fingers in the way) best bet is to hold the hammer as well. Hammer is now decocked and you can trouble shoot the trigger group.

Hmmm.
Try this first before you do what jt_trouble says to do.
Remove the trigger assembley and push down on the dissconector bar untill you see it at the same level as the middle of the sear. Once you get there pull the trigger but make sure your finger is not pushing down on the bar. I like to use a flat head screw driver. If the hammer drop's when you pull the trigger then most likely you are not seating the trigger assembely properly. Now if the hammer dosn't drop then most likely it will be a sear issue. Do what jt_trouble says and inspect the sear for burs or heavy machining marks. Report back and we will walk you threw the rest of the steps if need be.
Most of the time just a nice polishing of the guide channel on the sear & the guide rails on the trigger group is all that's needed.
