Help sourcing a ball mold

You might contact Shooter Choice in Waterloo. I used to get my (real) black powder from them and they did carry a pile of traditional black powder accessories. At least they might be able to give you a lead.

It’s a muzzleloader that’s inside bore diameter is .437 and smoothbore, and I intend to patch the balls like I always have.

Jeff provided me with an odd-ball size recently that works very well . Used a small pair of handles that I had and after a little bit of filing in the mounting grooves fit beautifully. Total cost including shipping was about $65= Took Canada customs a month to clear it.

take any slightly under size mould....cast some balls...with ball in mould drill small hole 2/3 way through ball via sprue plate hole remove ball and insert good long shank screw into pilot hole and tighten ..........cut end off screw .....put in drill chuck ........cover ball with ctc valve grinding compound ....put in mould close and spin ball in mould.....repeat ...regulate time ie 10 sec spin times 2 or 3 .....make note....cast new ball and mic repeat based on new dia of ball and spin log you have grinder ball may need to be replaced as it will wear down as well......go slow .....it will work good luck

Polishing out a ball mold might give you a few thousandths more but I don't think you can get a whole lot.

If I remember correctly the equator will be opened out more quickly than the poles and your ball will become funny shaped (oblate).

Yes, you'll end up with an out-of-round ball.
