This is the one i worked on with shim installed

THAT is the handguard I want to upgrade my Stag 10 with...an 18" one. Any issues installing it? Fairly easy? Thoughts overall on it?

Thanks!!! :)

So I pulled the handguard off to get a better look...there's no way that gap is necessary. Every installation video shows that outer handguard nut flush with the receiver

I initally thought so too at first glance. But the barrel nut is at the end of the threads on the receiver. There's nowhere else for it to go. Without seeing if the threads on the barrel nut are recessed to allow it to butt up against the face of the receiver, I can't help you.

If you look at the picture of the MI hand guard, you'll see that the barrel nut stops at the same spot as yours. The difference being that MI compensates for this by extending the top rail.

I know my outer barrel nut comes tight to the receiver face, and is the exact same as the OPs. No modifications necessary. I have no (OK, maybe 1 or 2 thou) gas tube exposed between the outer nut and receiver face.

Went together slick as you could want. So not sure what kind of differences OP has vs. my setup. Same receivers, same handguards (manuf.), same barrel nuts.

Lap the receiver to facilitate the correct timing.

I just finished a build with an Odin works handguard. They are pretty easy to install.

Yours was not installed correctly. The handguard nut needs to be turned in another 360 degrees and then the barrel nut reinstalled. PM me if you need more info.
