Help Stripped Aimpoint mounting screw ** UPDATE**

Was installing my new T-1 on a DD mount when I over torqued on screw and now it's stripped just spins. What can I do ? Only helpfull comments please. Thanks:bangHead:

** Just heard back from Aimpoint and they are replaceing the unit :dancingbanana::dancingbanana: Big thanks to Scott at Questar for all his help with this. Aimpoint is definetaly a stand up company that looks after their customers.

Had the same problem. I was very careful, and installed with a torque screwdriver, yet it still stripped one of the holes. I have mounted many many optics before, and never stripped anything as easily as that before. I just filled the problem hole with blue locktite and properly torqued down the other 3 screws. No problems.

I was suprised as well,for something that is designed for such hard use the mounting system seems so delicate.
 
Yeah, I was actually petty pissed that a $600 optic would be that soft in the mounting. At least they could have installed a harder metal threaded insert to prevent this. I was amazed at how little effort it took to strip it.

These are the areas they cheapen the product and hope for the best.. maddening

Sucks very badly. I'd be upset. I've also been in similar situations.

I'd say call/write Aimpoint, being honest on how you stripped a thread, explain that if it isn't covered under warranty that you are willing to pay for the repair (usually companies will charge fairly when the customer isn't being a #### trying to get a free replacement for obvious damage that was done by them.)

I'm sure you're not the first. Post back and let us know how much it costs ;)
Who knows, they might give you a brand new one in exchange for your current one and some cash. Sucks, but better than having a $600 optic with a stripped hole :(
 
Seen this on another forum:

"I stupidly stripped the threading on the base on my T-1. (Who would have thought it would an aluminum base with steel screws?? Aimpoint replaced it, no hassles. Guess who I'm buying any future red dots from? Quality and good customer service pays off and then some:".

But, this is in the US, not sure if they will ship parts to Canada.
 
Worthwhile to invest in a torque wrench. A cheaper than the hassle of dealing with warranty/repair on $600 sight.
 
I stripped out two mounting holes in my H1 with very little torque. Mistakenly thinking the lock tight would suffice, I mounted the sight on my S&W 629. Guess what happened after 4 rounds. The H1 went hurtling through the air and onto the concrete floor. Now all the holes are torn out and I've basically got a piece of $600.00 junk. Terrific.
 
Hopefully Aimpoint will help you fellows out, that have stripped the threading in the mounting holes.
Since Aimpoint products are manufactured in Sweden, the US has nothing to do with this, you could contact the Canadian importer and/or Aimpoint to see if they can help you out with some form of warranty.

However, if not, you may be able to repair the damaged threaded holes. A few years ago I bought a used Yamaha motor for one of my personal watercraft that had a blown motor, but discovered it had a stripped head bolt! At first I thought of repairing the stripped threaded hole using a Heli Coil kit, as I had used them years ago. However, I was told to forget the Heli Coil kit, as they are a pain to install in smaller holes. I was told to use a Time-Sert kit.
I bought one and it worked like magic!

Here is a link to what they offer. Again, I would hope Aimpoint cover you guys, but if they don't, this may be a better option than having an Aimpoint paperweight!

Thanks for the info, a lot of people have had similar problems ( I hardly put any pressure on it ans the threads came out of the hole like a snake) Have read on a lot of forums Aimpoint has exchanged / replaced but this was all in the US. Will update when I have an answer. Thanks for the feedback.
 
I almost stripped mine when installing, it doesn't take much to do. I didn't have a torque driver just using a small allen key and was surprised how little it took to tighten.

The are multiple. We all deal with Aimpoint directly.


It's weird, on my first Micro the red screwdriver it comes with broke before I was able to strip the threads.

I spoke with you at Xmas to order but unfortunately you were out of stock, I wish I could have waited because Im not sure how much help the dealer I bought from will be. ( had to use up the money before year end) or I would have waited to purchase.
