Help/tips adjusting older Vari-X-ii scope

I have an older vari X II 2-7 I traded for and have it mounted on my newish 375 ruger. Seems like it should work decent, be stout enough and have enough eye relief.

My question is with adjustments all my other glass has clicks and this is a friction adjustment. Markings simply U or D 3,6,9,12 with 2 hashes invetween. I believe it's a 1/2 moa but curious what each hash mark represents at 100yards

1 moa is approx. 1.047inches.

the varix ii is 1/2 moa adjustments, and 2 hashmarks between numbers, means each marked point is 1 moa.

Although I have read that a lot of the older scopes were in reality inches per hundred yards (iphy) and not true moa. Only way to be certain is to try it out.

draw a large graph like 5 or 6 ft high, with every 5 inches marked off, adjust up/down like 10 or 15/20 moa and then measure the distance to see if it moved your reticle exact inches or moa.
 
To save ammo , especially with a big gun I start at 25 then 50 then fine tune at 100 , maybe only one shot at 25 two at 50 etc,that's after a bore sight starting point
 
If you're trying to minimize the shooting of this rifle you've already lost the battle replace the recoil pad, get a PAST recoil shield and take your balls out of your purse. It's a 375, it's not going to hurt you. If you're that scared, buy a 308.

a PAST is a very good tool.

i do not have a purse but BUM that was good humour on that one ...
