Hi,

Here is the situation .. I am recently married and the money is a little tight right now. BUT .... An opportunity has arisen that might be worth looking at. A family friend is selling a rifle. I have not seen it yet and only have a description and a ballpark what he wants.

As described, bolt action Husqvarna .357 Norma Magnum

That is all I know... I cannot find much on the internet so far - only some info on a .358 NM. I am planning to try to get up to see this rifle, but would like some feedback from the group on their recommendations or advise. Est. worth?

Thanks
R

well, it's most likely a 358 Norma, as there was no such thing as a "357 Norma Magnum". Good round, I shoot one, but it's not an all around cartridge for most people. Recoil is starting to get a little heavy, not unmanagable, but certainly noticable. Husky rifles are nice rifles, a tad heavier then thier North American cousins, but that's usually a good thing. In 358, it was either rebarreled or it was built after the late fifties or so. If it's in good shape for a decent price, jump on it. - dan

buy it, then sell it (after shooting 2 rounds and fearing the third) and buy something you can really use. That unless you're naturally insensitive to recoil. and have the money to spend on ammo (a lot for this wonderful otherwise cartridge)

Great cartridge, great rifle, definately a large game rifle, not an all round rifle like a 30-06,.308, etc. If its in good condition.....$700...(thats what I'd pay)

Most folks should be able to shoot anything up to a 375H&H with a bit of practice and proper shooting technique.

Start off by shooting reduced 200gr loads and go from there.

SC : you KNOW he's not a reloader.
Tight money and Norma should be prohibited to be used in the same sentence. That unless there's a negation somewhere....

Like : you may get a good deal for the rifle, but the ammo will cost you like this: 3 boxes of it will equal the amount of money you can buy an ol' trusted 303 , 8mmM etc and the equivalent ammo.

There are a lot of ppl that would love to have a rifle like that.
I'm one of them.
BUT , for practical reasons I shoot 308s and 6.5s.

Hello, Well saw the rifle today and it is in not to bad of shape. It's got signs of normal wear, overall very nice. Does not Come with a scope, but has mounts for one. Comes with 2 boxes of ammo and some used brass. asking price $500

Also had my eye on a Savage 340V in 225 Win, again in good shape and asking $400 and a Beretta 301 20ga semi for similar $$$

Two different rifles for different purposes, but opportunity knocked... Can't get them all, may not get any and save for rainy day.. but the itch is there

Good deal, esp with the ammo and brass.

You can't lose on that one as long as it hasn't been bubba'd.

Heck, buy it, shoot the rounds that are loaded, if you like it buy some dies and find someone local who will help you reload them. If you don't like it, sell it here, I don't think it is all that common a caliber in the Husky, someone will want it.

Why Not? has a set of dies for 358NM F/S

Yeah, & can't .358 Norma Mag brass be easily made by resizing + trimming .300 Win Mag brass?

Sounds like a fun project for someone who's up for it... ;)

$500.00 for the husky sounds like a good deal, $400.00 for the Savage is not a great deal, the savage 340 was a very low quality rifle compared even to Savages current offerings!
