Help to choose the right ammo .308

Hi guys,

I’m currently building my first target riffle in .308(built will be ready in 5-10 days😀)
I’m looking to get some ammo to start at 100y. Good enough to have a decent group and cheap enough to shoot more. What would be my best bang for the buck to start with?

For a Savage 10TR with a Vortex 4-16 HST.

I have a savage 10 with a similar vortex product and it shoots norinco Steel cases better than hirtenberger I find. It likes 150 grain American eagle which isn’t craZy expensive. Federal gmm is the best and federal fusion for hunting ammo. For supreme accuracy unless you wanna spend 30 bucks plus a box you’ll have to load your own

In that case buy a bunch of cheap brass cased ammo. Don’t waste any money on steel case or berdan primed ammo. Best to stick with one brand as it’s easier to load one brand of brass than a mixed bag.

Your not getting MOA with norc.

And I highly doubt any of the cheap,brass cased ammo,will get you MOA.

I've owned a 10 tr, and tryed multiple factory ammo,the only thing I could get consistent MOA,was Barnes TTSX. ($60 a box)

Now my handloads were a different story, sub MOA was easily achievable.

You can make some really decent ammo for a buck a round
 
Lee classic loader, bag of brass, box of primers, box of bullets, pound of powder. Read and follow the instructions, if your not sure ask someone who knows (plenty of help here), I’d pick up a digital scale too. Then you are rolling. I still use parts of my Lee loader all the time even though I have other more advanced equipment. Oh a vernier caliper is a good idea too.

I'm still using my balance beam, is there an advantage to a digital? I've read,that they can be finicky.
 
Cheaper. No advantage, faster maybe. I prefer the beam as it’s pretty much impossible to mess up. But use the digi more because it takes up less real estate on the bench. You have to calibrate and zero the digi other than that I have no problems with it.
