Help to find info about old 30 WCF 1894 winchester

Hi,
My cousin have an old winchester 1894 30 WCF
He asked me to help him to find value of the gun.
Is there Winchester expert on CGN .

These are the basics info:

Serial # : 698113
Barrel is 20"
Seem’s to me that the gun is a saddle ring carbine in trapper model but I’m not sure...
Wood is in very good shape with "CITY OF TORONTO" and "508" punched on shoulder wood stock’
No crack.
Blue seem’s to me 50-60% but I’m not an expert...

Sounds like a standard 1894 carbine owned by the TORONTO Police force. they were sold off as surplus many years ago. You might get a couple hundred more for it than an unmarked(police) carbine from someone interested in the police connection.
 
Serial number indicates made in 1913. Saddle rings bring a bit more than the standard type. Would guess around $650- out here and perhaps more with the police provenance-maybe as much as $200-. Needs the right collector! Just my thoughts. Cheers

It’s nice to have your feedback on it’s. I said him it worth less than 1K$....but he was sure it worth a lot more ...because he saw other models who seem’s like his gun...

Hello Louis,

Photos would be a huge help in order to determine what the possible value of the gun might be. If you want to send some to me at 2bitrifles@gmail.com I will be happy to take a look. A "trapper" version of a saddle ring carbine is one that has a shorter than the standard 20 inch barrel. An d for most serious collectors these are the 14, 15, 16, and 18 inch guns. Seventeen inch guns are like hen's teeth! The Toronto stamp is a toss up with regard to value. Serious "condition hound" collectors will typically look at at it as a detraction but there are certainly those out there who will be interested in knowing a bit of provenance about the gun. Based on the serial number and the original serialization records kept by Winchester at the time of production the rifle was manufactured during 1914.
