I was showing a pal my Tok a month back when the firing pin and spring took off and hit the floor. When I examined it I saw that the retaining pin/key was also missing. A few minute search of the floor and I found the pin and could see that the split end was missing one half. I found that Tradex had them in stock so I ordered two but when I insert them they are loose so that if I leave it that way the new pin will just fall out. Do I need to "peen" one side or the other or what ? Any suggestions or help would be appreciated Thanks .

I've seen posts where people have replaced a missing split pin on a TT with a roll pin.
I'm not sure why your replacement is loose, they usually seem overly tight. Is your TT a Russian surplus TT, or a variant from another country?

Check your firing pin tip brother.
The last time this happened to me I thought it was the split pin so I swapped it with new one.
I noticed my firing pin was hitting my new roll pin so hard it rattled and physically moved in the hole when I dry fired it. It would eventually slam its way out of the hole altogether!
I took the gun apart completely and realized my firing pin tip had snapped off and the pin was slamming too far forward into the upper slide when I dropped the hammer.
Which was making the groove in the rear of the firing pin slam into retaining cross pin and that's what snapped the side of my split pin!
After I swapped the firing pin for a new one it never happened again.
My split pin did not move anymore either with a new firing pin when I dry fired it. Just lock the slide to the rear, push the end of the firing pin in with a pencil and check the face of the upper slide to see if the pin protrudes to check quickly and rule this out.

The tradex ones aren't the right size. I ordered some, found they were loose, and measured them. Don't have the measurements handy right now, but the original retaining pin is larger than the Tradex replacements.

Right now I have the original (broken) pin in place. I heated it up, and bent the only remaining "arm" of the pin outwards. It's enough of a spring effect to keep it in place. So far.

Travis, I tried your firing pin check, thanks for that. Mine protrudes/retracts when I push the rear of the firing pin. I'm assuming if it were broken, it would protrude, but not retract, correct?

Yes correct.
It may be you need a proper NOS split pin that will actually fit tight in your frame in your case Sir.
I actually had good luck on e-bay for firing pins and split pins believe it or not. I found them real cheap. 70% less than the next best gun shop in Canada was trying to hose people for.

Stevebc....if you send me measurements I may have some of the correct spares for you

Very much appreciated sir- the original retaining pin shank diameter is just under .015"

The Tradex replacements are .009.

PM inbound, and thanks again.

Thnx for all the help. Never thought to measure the replacement as compared to the old one. The FP's not busted so guess we'll have to go another route and sub another replacement. Anyone need/want the the Tradex ones that don't "measure" up ?
