Hi all, I need a little CGn expert help. I have a 9mm H&K USP Custom Sport that I purchased off of a fellow CGN'er.

Intermittently since getting it I have had an issue, where after loading a full fresh mag and decocking, the trigger does not appear to engage the hammer and I can pull the trigger all the way too the back and the hammer does not appear to move.

When this happens I can #### the hammer manually and pulling the trigger will fire the gun. I have had the issue happen with different mags and 2 different types of Winchester ammo.

I have tried to re-#### and then re-decock the hammer with no luck. Alex Lacelle who was assisting with the Black Badge course I was on, suggested loading only 9 rounds and that it could be a full mag. I did not try this yet, but will in the near future. I can load all mags up to capacity without difficulty, unlike my P226 mags.

I found this really frustrating on the Black Badge course as Pat, Earl and Alex can attest too. If anyone has any insight as to what may be causing this, it would be greatly appreciated as I would like to use it for Russlemania, which will be my qualifier.

PS The previous owner did not mention any issue, so I do not know if this just started with me or the previous owner forgot to mention it.

Thanx in Advance

I have the same gun USP CS in 9mm and I have no problems with the double action after using the de cocker. Im assuming all your mags are factory 9mm mags? I know some people have used 40 cal to get a lil extra capacity. Sorry I cant help ya, maybe take it to a HK shop?

A lil offtopic but what holster are you using?

IF you dry fire it, does it do the same thing?
I doubt it's a mag/ammo issue since it has nothing to do with it.
It's a safety/fireing pin/trigger issue.

Try to dry fire it after decoking... I'm sure the problem will still be there and will need a gunsmith to look at it.

have you dissasembled your HK completely, to make sure it was in proper form? There is a plunger type piece that has a spring under it, the trigger bar rides on top of it and pushes up on the trigger bar as it rides under the hammer to engage it. Check that piece as well. Go to HKPRO forums, and look under the "Handguns", section. In this section you will see a trouble shooting section as well as instructions for full take down with step by step instructions and diagrams.
If you have anymore questions feel free to email me.

The match trigger of the CS has a screw in it for overtravel, is this very tight to the frame when you press the trigger? Not sure of anything else you could check for?

Thanks for the response guys, to answer you're questions:

Purevil: A lil offtopic but what holster are you using? I am using a Laroche Leathers competition holsters.

Icefire: IF you dry fire it, does it do the same thing? No I have never had it happen once when dry firing and I have dry fired a fair amount.

Maurice: have you dissasembled your HK completely I have field stripped it, but have not dissasembled it completely, as I would not really know what to look for.

Maurice: The match trigger of the CS has a screw in it for overtravel, is this very tight to the frame when you press the trigger? The trigger seems to be very tight to the frame, with the overtravel screw right to the back of the trigger guard.

What is really wierd is that the problem is completely intermittent and as I said when it happens it appears that the trigger will not #### the hammer, yet if I #### it manually it will fire.

I am guessing at this point that I will have to take it to a gunsmith and have them look at it.

Does anyone a good H&K armourer in the Ottawa area, if not I will be taking it to Gunco.

Thanks for all the replies and assistance.

Try giving it a very good cleaning in and around the front of the trigger bar. Between the bar & the frame tends to gunk up & prevent the trigger from resetting.
Another place to clean(unrelated to your problem)is behind the extractor. Drive the rollpin down, and remove the extractor & spring. It's probably dirty in there too.

Is the trigger resetting after you press and release the trigger? (ie: does it go back out to SA distance from the frame of the gun AND reset?) I did have some minor problems when my pistol was new with tightness around the trigger axle/upper trigger area. I found small plastic trim shavings from the frame in around this area which prevented it from resetting properly. because the trigger return spring is lighter on the CS than a regular USP, the is more chance is can get hung up or be slowed down from resetting. You really should check out this website;

This has details of how to take down your HK's and look for solutions.
When you are trying to diagnose the problem, take the slide off, as your problem is in the trigger and reset areas, which have little or nothing to do with the slide. It is good to know this stuff, as some problems are easy to fix. A lot have to do with cleaning and maintenance. It can save you time and money as opposed to sending it off to a gunsmith. If you read the instructions carefully, it is not as hard as you think. You will need a set of punch tools (Princess Auto or Canadian Tire= very cheap), you can also get a small set of tweezers, or better yet, get the small tweezer kits from Princess Auto for a few dollars. The kit has different shaped tweezers for doing the work on pistols .

I had trigger/firing issues with a USP Expert. I had the over travel adjustment extened too far. Once I backed off the over travel screw my probs disappeared. But, it was a problem in single action mode (i.e. I could not depress the trigger far enough to make it release the hammer). It sounds like your problem is different. But, at least try backing off the screw and see if it makes a difference before taking it too a gunsmith.
