Hey guys, so i have a decision to make. I want to buy another new gun (just cause haha) but this time i want it to be a bigger caliber. Im torn between .300 wsm, .300 win mag and 7mm rem mag. I already have a .270, .243, 12 ga and 17 hmr. But i want a gun that i know that the moose/elk/bear etc in front of me is going down quickly, and I just want another gun :D so which caliber, and what make and model do you guys recommend. I want a good, quality rifle. Not a piece of junk. Price range of under 700 bucks

I got a new to me 45-70 and a NIB 338win mag in the last week.

I think both are fantastic!

The 45-70 was a pre remington used guide gun and the other is a new 338 win mag
Savage brush hunter... the only other thing I looked at in the last week seriously was a SS/laminate ruger rifle in 375 RUGER but it was like 1200 NEW so I passed. BUT SO SWEET!
I think that is the next rifle caliber I will get!

Good luck BTW the SS/Synthetic Savage brush hunter comes in 375 ruger as well I just could not find any or I would have one of them too! around $600 NIB

Try find a Vanguard original series of you can , hell of a price if they are still available.Vanguard 2 is a slightly better option and will still be within your budget.Don't disregard larger chamberings either if available.

.300 Win or maybe .338 Win. I could have picked up a new M700 in blue/brown laminate in .300 the other day for $599 which is a pretty good price. Vanguards are a deal at full price, a screaming deal when we were getting them for $350.

HHmmmm, Will you be reloading or just factory stuff?

Not sure what ammo is like in your area but why not combine 7RM an 300WSM= .7mmWSM Browning A bolt, whichever flavour you like.

I had a similar choice as you 12 months ago, an went for a .300WSM, looking back now i kinda shoulda given the 7RM a go, or 7wsm, packs a bit more recoil than the .270win i have... i am more accurate with the .270 m700 at longer ranges... i just typically bought a big 30 to stretch out an get em, but ya gota hit em first ;)

Its pretty good otherwise, kikeez pad was worth it on Abolt.

Oh come on guys there is only one choice at least that is what another CGN'er would say and if you don't agree with his cartridge of choice his panties may get into a knot = the venerable 9.3X62...

You should either get a 300 magnum [win mag or wsm or norma mag or H&H or whatever] AND/OR you should get a 338 win mag. Either will thump a bigger critter just fine. Although, if I could find a decent one [read: good price], I'd like to get a 338 RUM. That'll cover both 'long range' and 'big thump' very well.

Found a guy here in town, who would possibly sell me his tikka t3 lite stainless camo, with a bushnell elite 4200 for $1000 in 300 win mag only put 50 rounds through it. Paid 1800 last year, hes an older guy and said he just doesnt like the recoil

I have hunted over a lot of the globe with a 300 WM and I really like the cartridge. I have for the last 20 years been using a 300 Wby and like it even better. I have a 300 WSM and a 300 RUM but my go-to rifle is still the 300 Wby. The 300 WM is a much superior killing cartridge to the 338 WM with a lot longer legs and much greater energy when you streatch out a bit. I would highly recommend the 300 WM or 300 Wby which is my personal choice. My 300 Wby is better travelled than most people and is a killing machine to 500+ mtrs. Either the 300 Wm or 300 Wby cannot be knocked for 95% of all your hunting needs, period. After a 300 Mag the next step up is a .375 H+H, the reality is if a 300 won't kill it you MUST have a .375 or bigger.
This advice comes from a man who has hunted and killed every size of animal on the planet from blue duiker @12 pounds to African elephant @12,000 lbs. I have some experience behind my advice. I have taken animals as large as Yukon/Alaska moose and African eland very successfully with the 300 Wby and a very large bison with the 300 WM. THEY WORK!!!! I have also taken big game from 15 mtrs to 600 mtrs with the 30 cal magnums and have the greatest confidence in them to do the job. In my opinion there isn't a better 1 caliber do all North American cartridge than the 300 WM/300 WBY. JMHO

Ahhhh what is going on here = no one is recommending the 9.3X62 why oh why would you guys not give credit where its due our fellow KGN'er that loves his elustrous 9.3X62's is going to be so upset with all of you that are recommending a 300 mag oh yeah just like I did in another thread where good buddy got his panties in a knot because I recommended a 300 mag.

Thk

They either saw the old guy comeing if he paid 1800, or he's going through some sort of recoil induced dementia.

ive owned a few 300 win mags and am having a hard time digesting that it has more killing power than my 338 with 250 accubonds at 2700 fps?
