Well lets see now. Varmints to moose. Pretty darn good round for 1000 meters. Works way better in real life then on paper. The 270 is a very good round,true. But it sure ain't a 6.5x55 by any means.

No,the 270 is better, faster velocity in all bullet weights. Available in more rifles. Ammunition is more available. Yes 6.5 bullets have a high ballistic coefficiant but that is marginal. The 270 is no ballistic coefficiant slouch neither. 270 all the way, if you like the cool factor 6.5-284. Just my 2cents.

With a .270, you've got 'A snowballs chance in hell', (where you've described) because he's probably heard of a .270 versus 'NO chance in hell' because he doesn't even know what a 6.5x55 Sweedish Mauser is. Just sayin'

Well, well, well, here it is again.........which to choose?
If I bought new it would be the 7mm-08 or the 270wsm.
If I was buying on the higher end side, the 7mm-08 would be out.
One thing about a decent rifle chambered in the 270wsm, if you for
some reason didn't care for this chambering, it would sell quite easily.
As always, just a couple of pennies worth.

I'm in the "ammo I can get anywhere" camp. The .270 is a do-all round you can get anywhere.

Sometimes it's not about forgetting your ammo while away on a hunt, but it's about living in a small town and Canadian Tire (or similar) is the only game in town for ammo.

A 270, 30-06, 308 or 303 sure makes a lot of sense to the average joe, non-handloader in this situation.

My choice would be the 6.5x55. If you want to shoot factory ammo, then the .270 is a better pick.

I once went bow hunting and forgot my arrows! Fortunately I only had 10 kms to back track. I'm old!
