Gentlemen, a friend of mine in the US is researching the Winchester Model 71. A major part of his research is the compiling of a database of known Model 71’s. If you have one or more Model 71’s, your contribution would be greatly appreciated. Here is what he needs:
Full serial number: (each rifle or carbine is catalogued by serial number, so the full serial number is required to avoid duplicate entries)
Barrel length from breach to muzzle:
Deluxe or standard:
Caliber:
Length of upper tang from hammer slot to top of tang:
Barrel date: (If you are willing, it is located on underside of barrel, a two-digit number near receiver)
Type of rear sight:
Receiver drilled and tapped?: yes or no
Is the muzzle crowned or flat?
If you can pm me with the information, I will pass on the info to him. This type of database is very useful for reconstructing the manufacturing history of the Model 71. Eventually, there will be an article on the findings.
P.S. I'm constructing a similar database on surviving Winchester Model 53's so if you have not sent me your info yet, I would be very grateful to receive it.
