Hey all,
Once again, a new project inbound. I need a precision rifle, in .17 HMR, capable of AT LEAST 1/2 MOA, ( I have much higher hopes, but don't want to sound like a crazy mofo ). So I am looking for a rifle, using two caracteristics ( don't need to have both in the same rifle, but will choose upon it )

The most out-the-box accurate.
The most customizable

I have my eyes set on a Savage 93R17 BTVS, but before to buy, I want to see what's around.

:DI very strongly suggest a CZ 452 either Varminter or American I have both and they're both 1/2 MOA , Savage will shoot also but prefer the CZ's;) the fit & finish is not even comparable on the Savage ( apples to oranges) but in it's price range Savage is no slouch:runaway:

Price range?

CZ452 or 453
Remington 504 in .17hmr

Cooper
Anschutz

Custom.

Some possibilities depending on price.
For me, the cooper or Anschutz would be my choice. Not sure which one.

Price range will be set by rifle's range. If 300$ buys 1 MOA and 1000 buys 1/8 MOA, I'll spend the apropriate sum.

If you're only interested in Accuaracy and not fit/finish, then probably the Savage is the ticket. If you want a mix with very good accuracy then I'd go for the CZ. It's a nice rifle and accurate.
If you want the upper level fit/finish and the accuracy then the Cooper or the Anschutz.

Unfortunately Kimber doesn't make a 17hmr or I'd have one myself. They only seem to have the 17HM2.

Yep, Accuracy is the absolute priority. So what is the most acurate savage rifle? Would it be better to buy a base model and to rebuild it, or to buy the BTVS and to work on it? Money is not much of a concern, but I do not wish to spend useless dough.

What are you going to be doing with your 17?

Hunting or target shooting?

A buddy and I both got Savages a few years ago - mine in 22 Win Mag (93-GL) and he got the basic sporter 17 HMR with plastic stock (93R17-F).

His 17 shoots better than my 22 WMR. I put a Rifle Basix trigger in it which helped a lot! Both guns are pre-Accutrigger.

The 17 is very efective on groundhogs our past 175 yds. I have nailed them at 150+ yds with the 22WMR.

Chuck Hawks says the 22 Win Mag is the way to go to 100. Past 100, he says 17HMR.

I just ordered a 93R17 BVSS yesterday.

Keep your eyes on the EE for a 22 WMR.....lol..........SD

100 yards, 20 gr. hornady ammo.

If I do my part, the wind is "reasonable", this little rifle will do this all day - off a bench.

Ask Randy at the Poco range, when I was calling and shooting fragments of clay pigeons at 210 yards with it. Good enough to nail a gopher at 200 yards? Good enough in my book.

Hi Guys - sorry about the multiple entries.

Connectivity issues (slow access to site) caused this. (?)

No Worries :D.

Hope you don't mind, I deleted the other posts

Now to answer your question - I don't mean to say negative but 1/2 MOA is a high expectation for just about any gun let alone a rimfire. You may want to set your sights a tad bit lower, unless you want to spend big money for an anschutz or coooper.

Having said that the CZ 452 would be an excllent choice, with Marlin and savages .17HMR beeing an excellent choice as well
