Hey, so I have finally decided to reload some 300blk now that I have enough brass. I'm using 150gn
Fmj and trail boss poweder,, the issue comes where the case is almost full and in order to seat the projectile
The an acceptable depth or even specified I'll be compressing the powder.. iv read a few different forms people say you have to compress it but I'd like if someone can comment on my situation or even any
Personal experience with trailboss

Thanks

I have not tried TB and the 300

but what I have read you do not compress TB

TB is not a Low Pressure Powder it is a HIGH PRESSURE POWDER

you use a little bit of TB in special applications

you do not state where you got your load data

I have not read anywhere of tb working in a semi ----- bolt gun yes

I don't use trail boss in my 300 bulk ar. I'm using lil' gun and h110 with 150 gr bullets. For sub sonics I've used 200 gr with imp 4198. Ive used trail boss for reduced loads and every piece of literature I've seen on it states not to compress it.

Hogdon's lists compressed loads with Trail Boss and nothing is said about compressed loads. Other than a letter "C" after the charge weight.

Powders for subsonic single shot, bolt action
Trail boss- good for lighter grain subs, can work for heavy subs but requires almost a full case and a very compressed load.
Alliant Red Dot - Works well for heavy subs, but very extreme spread for lighter grain subs. Not recommended for light weight subs.
WW231
Unique
N320
AA#5 - tends to throw flyers but very quiet
HS6
IMR 4756 Lehigh defense recommends this powder for their bullets for single shot firearms. It is finicky, but once worked up it is very quite.
Blue Dot Heavier subs 200 gr plus
700X Seems to work well for mid range subs

Thanks for the help guys I actually just ended up buying h110 just to play it safe. So if anyone local wants to buy 1lb of trail boss
Pm me,, seems that h110 works well with the 150g fmj..

Those TB cans are actually only 1/2 pound.

I prefer Lil'Gun and A1680 for the 150+ grain supersonic loads. I have loads with 155 A-max that shoots sub MOA in two of my 300BLK rifles using those powders. I only use H110 for my 110gr V-max loads. H110 will work with heavier stuff in a bolt action but I also have 300BLK semi auto and Lil'Gun and A1680 works better with the semi.
IMR4227 is supposed to be a pretty good powder for 300BLK but I haven't tried it yet.
For subsonic I use A1680 under 208gr Hornady projectiles or the TrailBoss under 150gr FMJ's. I don't spend a lot of time playing with subsonic since you still need hearing protection and the trajectory is pretty poor past 100 yards.

With 150's 7.0 grains of TB is my best subsonic load... my standard 150 load is 20.0 grains of CFE-BLK.

6.5gr is the most TB I've used under a 150gr, what's the accuracy like for your load?
I still need to pick up a pound of CFEBLK to try out. I haven't shot the 300BLK's in a long time, might be time to get back into them.

7.0 was the most accurate load in my rifle... bullet was a 150 SP.

Are you loading for a bolt action or semi auto?

It's for a semi auto, it's got a 7" barrel so already at a disadvantage for pressure so subs don't work all that well iv found.

Forget Trailboss then, it won't do what you need in a semi.
I use A1680 under a Hornady 208gr HPBT for subsonic in a semi. If I'm remembering correctly my 10 inch AR needed 11.4gr to cycle and above 12.8 it wasn't subsonic anymore. My non restricted 300BLK barrel in my ACR is similar.
Best thing to do is load 2 of each starting low then single load them in the gun and fire them noting if the action locks back on the empty mag. Keep moving up in 0.1 or 0.2 grain increments till it locks open on the bolt face, note that as your absolute minimum but add another 0.2 to ensure cycling as it gets dirty, chronograph them along the way and hope it's still subsonic at the powder charge it cycles at.
If you can't get it to work with subs I wouldn't worry too much, they're still loud enough you need hearing protection anyway.
My favorite loads for both my 300BLK's is A1680 or Lil'Gun under a 155gr Hornady A-max. It's supersonic in my rifles and both will shoot it sub moa with either of those powders.
