Did not want to post in the K98 pictures thread.
I picked up a badly cut K98 and was wondering if I should try for military full wood or a sporter stock.
The bore is bright and action very slick, all numbers that I can see match except for the safety lever.
Looks like the stock also matched but seems to be cut down by a drunk 8 year old. Front sight hood is missing.
I am including some pics of the markings I can see and any help would be appreciated.
Has a date of 1938 on receiver as well as the number 147---this area is worn and the markings here are less visible than the rest.
Thanks,
Rob.

Looks like that was a beautiful Mauser at some point...
Has the front sight or barrel been modded?
Marstar had stock sets available. Could try them. Numrich in the USA also has stocks and parts

Thanks guys, I Will look around for a replacement stock set. All stocks of this period are the same? Or is there something I should be looking for specific to this model?
My first Mauser so will be a learning experience for me.

as its a post war refurb any stock should do, some may need minor fitting around the action. try tradeex at the top of the page , for the stock.

Not Bad at all.

Trade-Ex has nice laminate Yugo stock - will fit and look the part - almost identical to German stocks.

Lever-Arms has some original German stocks I believe.

A 1938 rifle would not have a laminated stock and a cupped buttplate, so it was rebuilt somewhere.
By all means, get a stock, handguard and bands and restore it.
