Help with a Lever........?

I tore down my Winchester Model 94 and I'm having trouble re-installing the barrel bands. Specifically the screws won't line up. Any tips on getting them lined up correctly?

Never had that problem. Photos might help.

The screw feeds through to the inside of the band, but it just won't bite into the screws. Front and rear bands are the same.

Try turning them around ie if bolt head is now on the left side, turn it around so head is on the right side.

Ditto on the heads on the right side.

The rear band screw is bent, and it is supposed to be. You will need to watch the end and see when it is aligned before adding pressure from the screwdriver.

You can file a little wood out of the forend hole for the screw with a slim round file. It gives it a little more clearance to line up properly. Plus if you chamfer the ends of the screws a little it sometimes helps. I never had much trouble with the barrel band, it was always the forend band that drove me nuts. Just don't get PO'd and force them, they are easy to strip or bugger up the screwheads.

Yup, I've been trying to start the screws on the left side. Will turn it all around and try again. Thanks all.

Just for future reference...just about all guns made in the states... the pins, screws and sights are meant to be installed from the right side.

I was just working on a Post 64 94 that had never been apart. Screws for both bands are on the left.

there is some risk looking down the bore!
I believe it's like sitting in the driver's seat, looking out the windshield.
