Help with a marking

I've looked around for the meaning of this for a while now and maybe I'm just not looking in the right spot so I'm asking for help from all you knowledgeable folks. What's this mean? Looks like an 83 on the left side of a broad arrow and a PD on the right. The rifle is a NO4MK2

Hi Ryan

I have similar markings on all of my 1953 FTR'd No1 Mk3*'s. They where all part of BSA's commercial refit program in the fifties. Unfortunately I have no idea what the markings signify. Was your No4 mk2 FTR'd at all?
 
It's non-matching and has F56 stamped on it so I think so but I'm not 100% as it doesn't have the very clear FTR on the receiver like my MK1 does. My experience with Enfields is limited but I'm trying to learn so I'd appreciate your input (and patience with my ignorance).
 
I'm not sure if the marking has something to do with the FTR process or not. However they only seem to appear on the barrels and in my case all the rifles received a new barrel in 1953. On any of my no4's from the forties or pre ww2 no1's they are not present. I also don't recall seeing any mention of them in any of the enfield literature that I have. Trying to decipher the hundreds of proofs and marks on enfields is part of the fun of collecting them!
