Hey guys! I’m hoping someone can help me out with this Mauser I got
I think it’s turkish and I’m pretty sure it shoots the. 8x57 round but I’m not sure. Can anyone help me out. Thanks

Definitely Turkish Mauser and it will be in 8x57 unless someone reamed chamber for 8-06 .Chamber cast will tell you exactly.

That muzzle brake makes me wonder.Looks like a piece of thin pipe with holes.

The notch cut on the rear of the front receiver ring is typically seen on mausers that were built (Belgium FN) or modified (Columbian, Norwegian) to 30-06, to allow loading with stripper clips. As per above, confirm bore size and chambering before assuming it is still an 8x57.

Not necessarily. There were many different milsurp rifles built which had notches cut into the receiver, either as a refurbishment when they were modified to a new caliber or from the factory. Examples include but aren't limited to the Portuguese M1904, Gewehr 88/05, Danish conversions of the M1917, etc.

In this case the receiver was likely originally a Ottoman M1903 in 7.65x53, and when it was converted to 8mm Mauser in the 30s the notch would have been cut in and the receiver markings ground. Since it has been sporterized it likely is a good idea to check the caliber to make sure it is still 8mm Mauser.

Good eye, Eaglelord 17. I missed the scrubbed markings - they would be real close to as shown on p. 384 of Ball's 5th MMROTW, also would match a 1905 Carbine, both originally made in 7.65x53. To OP, any chance of seeing the left receiver side, a top view of the rear of the receiver, and perhaps a side view of the right side of receiver with the bolt closed - should be a serial number across the rear bridge with last three digits on top of bolt handle?

The 30 cal bullet drops right down the barrel. I’m still torn what to do with it. Keep it sell it. Not even sure what it’s worth

Looks like a Turk conversion of a M1903 Turk Mauser cal 7.65x53 to 7.9x57. Notch was to accommodate the 7.9 ctg in the short 1903 receiver.
