Help with a Star model b/Modelo super, jamming when going into battery

Hello, Im trying to figure out what exactly is going on with my Star model b, it has the semi frequent problem of when cycling a new round, jamming in battery but not completely locked, usually this requires quite amount of force to free the slide before i can get the live round out, Ive been doing some reading on these pistols and I may have been misled on the type of ammunition this pistol takes, I was lead to believe it took modern 9mm, but if its perhaps a slightly different model it may be something else, on the slide it says "cal 9 m/m p" and also there are some numbers on the slide and frame that match, this number is 56318, on the other side of the frame it reads 1249108, and has the number 73 on the trigger guard.

Any advice on what might be going on here would be appreciated.
 
Don't know much about the Star, but 9 m/m P is 9mm Parabellem; 9mm Luger... Standard 9mm.

Are you using factory or home loads?
 
I would start out by doing the plunk test. Take the gun apart. Holding the barrel verticalky, drop a round into the chamber. It should freely drop fully in. If not, either your ammo is slightly too big, or the chamber slightly too small.
 
Your pistol takes the standard 9mm round. ( 9x19 ).
The number 73 on the trigger guard indicates that it was made in 1973. Mine is a 73 also.

As Fargone4sure said, I would suspect the ammo first. A tight chamber second.
My suggestion would be as follows.
Field strip the pistol and clean & lube it. While you have the barrel out, test your ammo by doing the plunk test
into the chamber.
If the ammo passes that test then I would use that ammo when you go to the range. If it still sticks
then that would indicate another problem that needs attention.

These are very well made, reliable pistols. The only fault with them is tat the firing pins were not
properly heat treated and tend to snap if dry fired.
 
I sold a few of these and they where all great, sounds like chamber dirty, or ammo, a lot of reloads have bulged cases if not full length resizing die
as Colinjw covered most of it, everyone of these that I have handled, if it is a import in the last few years always had new barrels, but check the chamber real good.
Are you shooting new ammo, should work with that, if you are shooting reloads, buy some new and check it, I think all these are sold out now, my suppler is out anyway.
These where a great deal. They seemed to all have that 2 set of #, the 73 yr is the most common that I have seen, the Spanish police is where these came from I think and they likely bought a huge batch at that time. Keep us posted.
P.S. That other # could be a police stock #????? don't know
The only one I had trouble with was the mag disconnect was a bit iffy, would hang up the trigger sometimes, only thing I did not like on these.
 
Good to know on the caliber being correct, I am using reloaded canadian BDX but its never been a problem with any of my other 9s, ill be sure to try the plunk test and return with my findings.
 
Let us know; different manufactures may have different tolerances in their chambers; if you have ammo built to the high side of the tolerance, and a pistol manufacturer building to the low side, there is potential for interference. Likewise with a chamber that may be to minimum, and ammo loaded closer to maximum; bullets may plunk in but may not plunk in all the way.

So I did the plunk test, and it seems to drop in there pretty freely, however i did notice that if i firmly pushed on the round, it would stick a little, seeing as it is only a single extractor perhaps this was causing the issue? I cleaned it quite thoroughly and polished it lightly and now it seems to fall in freely and out as well, i tried my reloaded and also some snap caps that i had on hand, could this tendancy to stick really cause it to jam so badly?
 
Is this happening on the last round?
If so, you have a bad magazine follower
It will be slipping past the interior pin of the slide catch and jamming it up.
Try it with an empty mag. Its easier to see.

Or it could be something totally different
 
If you have a few different rounds, new and reloads, and clean brass, try them all, and look to see if they all drop in to the same depth, they should set on the case mouth, so make sure they are not setting on the lead, (or crud at front of chamber, where it builds up the most
fellow with a ruger 1911 9mm had a heck of a time, had a match chamber and reloads had to be full length size die, damn nice gun though.
Shoot the hell out of it and keep the chamber clean, and report back.
