Soooo cant see the calibre marker on this 1894 i got in my possession, friend told me 5 years ago when he asked me to fix it ( install firing pin),it was a 30-30.Did that ,fired 3 xs ,hey it works . Been waiting for him to pick it up forever , nope , calls me , asks me to sell it . I tell him it sure aint gonna be worth much ,all kinda rusty and mottled and 1/2 the bore worn out. But sure , well lets see if it still shoots -who knows right .

3xs at 50 -no hits on paper
3xs standing at 25 ish -no hits

Look at brass - now its fireformed kinda to 38-55 im thinking, plus a 30 cal bullet slides right through .....kinda embarrasing too

Its gotta be a 38-55 right ?? And how much would it be worth im wondering ?? SN puts it at 1914 . Trigger is scary light like BR light .

outside of the brass, edge of neck is .397" now ,inside .372-.373"

any help aprreciated / maybe ill keep it -idk

any resident Red Deer experts out there wanna take a look

Thanks Nuts.... pics if you want just let me know where

Hey, I almost PM'd you an offer, but with a worn out barrel, it ain't worth much. If you had correct ammo and were putting it on paper maybe more, but I think $100-200 with your description of it.

If you set the nose of a 38/55 on the mussel, and if it will drop in the chamber, it may be a 38/55.
Don't know how you could think it would be 30/30 looking at the bore.
the barrel will be marked just in front of the receiver at the top, take a bit of fine steel wool and oil, if it is that rusty, and you should see it, and scrub the hell out of the bore

Cause I didnt look at it that close after repairing firing pin, and was told it was a 30-30

And copy that. Thx.

It is very easy to believe what you have been told, or what it on the barrel. I had a p17 that was part of a collection I got from the father of a friend. Was not marked as having work done.long story short fired a 06 round in a Norma mag chamber. Powder burns and a bloody nose. Go slow and a chamber cast is worth doing. Good luck.

Calibre marking was under the barrel. I have it apart , re stained and sanded , re blued , slugged it out at .381"

Bullet Barnes hooking me up with the dies and some un sized test projectiles. 245 grain. Picked up the imr -4198 today.
