this has been passed down from my old man's side of the family

can anyone give some info on it?? I'm not sure what the markings say

Photos of the rest of the gun? would be handy. My impression is that I am looking at the bottom of the barrel of a screw barrel pistol, apparently with a brass barrel and brass frame. The crown over sceptres are British proof marks, the R I am guessing is a maker's mark

thanks mooncoon, I'll work on some more pics tomorrow, and I'll check bore diameter too. Some spots look like they may have had engravings but worn off since

I'm curious about the time period

if you look closely at the underside of the barrel on these flintlocks they have the same pair of sword and crown markings
