I currently have a really nice decked out Rugar SR 22 but it's very picky on ammo... And with the ammo shortage it's near impossible to find the CCI Blazer for it locally...

Wondering if anyone can recommend a good semi auto 22 that isn't picky with ammo? Would prefer a "Black" military looking but not a show stopper...

Not really interested in the Mossberg as i hear its all plastic....

Any help would be appreciated.

have you tried replacing the spring on your charging handle with a lower tension one so you can use subsonic ammo? you will still be able to use blazers with it even with the spring change as well.

ordering a dlask set is probably easiest. just call them up and order a charging handle and ask them to include the spring set and put the low tension spring on. its also a black milled charging handle so i would match the SR22

There are quite a few threads around on tuning your SR 22 so it's much less picky on ammo. Or you could just run a couple thousand rounds of MiniMags through it to achieve mostly the same results. What kind of problems are you having? Usually if it's FTE's, you can polish the bolt to really improve that. If you are noticing a definite difference using the stock 10 round mag vs an aftermarket 25 round mag, then you should look at polishing the underside of the bolt as well - as I found the feed lips on my Butler Creek mags were rubbing against the rough cast surface and slowing down the bolt. Polishing those surfaces let the bolt cycle more freely even if the feed lips were pressing against them. Another thing to improve FTE's is installing a Volquartsen extractor. I've never had to to that on my SR 22, but have done that on some of my Ruger 22/45's

I saw an AR type 22 at CT in Woodstock Ontario yesterday. I think it was a Mossberg (or at least they had mossberg on the tag perhaps). No idea if its any good though, youtube will lead you to the truth perhaps on that part.

I think the ruger 10/22 has the best chance at being the least picky eater at the table.

Youve sunk in $650 on you sr22. Welcome to the world of 10/22 and more so all .22s.
The nature of the beast is they can be picky on ammo. One gun is fine, the next only shoots minimags.
Im guessing you didnt read alot on the sr22 before you bought it. If you wanted a good rifle for the same money, you should have bought a CZ or atleast a Savage.
That being said Im also guessing you wanted semi auto with a tactical look.
Sadly as stated above, the m&p 15-22 is one of the most reliable semi auto AR style rifles.
However it need to be pinned to 10 rounds unless aftermarket mags like BC mags are made, also its a veriant so its restricted.
If you do some reading, most people sink 1k+ into their SR22 only to find there way on EE.
If they were so wonderful, why would everyone be selling them?
My guess is they run into your issues or find out the hard way, its an overpriced 10/22 that doesnt compete with CZ or others.
Yes its a great plinking gun, if it runs. Lol.
Once you try a 15-22, the only thing stopping you from selling the SR22 is the Classification and mag limit.
Please dont buy a 715t if you dont like plastic. If you do buy one, dont wine about it. I owned both versions and they both outshot stock 10/22 any day. But takedown is a pain.
Either sell your overpriced 10/22 that youve dropped even more coin on or spend even more and buy good ammo and more upgraded parts.
Up to you!

Seems like the entire problem stemmed from the sloppy seating of the Butler Creek 25 round mags... Tried a new 25 round HK Mag which seats nice and tight with no play and the problem all but went away... just a few occasional feed issues on the first 1-2 rounds when the mag is packed full, probably because of the new spring in the mag... had that problem before with other firearms... Took the gun to Dlask and they figured it out real quick at no cost to me....

Dlask pretty much talked me into one of their 10-22's so I'd still like to swap this one out but apparently posting this info on the forums has all but killed any hope of selling this gun, even though it seems to be a good shooter now...
