hello

I am reloading for the .45-60 Winchester.
the bullet I am trying to use is a 267 hollow base bullet.
the lowest bullet in my reloading book is a 292 with a charge of imr-4198 26-29 grains. do you think this is a safe charge for the smaller bullet or should I go lower/higher? also should I add a wad over the lose powder?

thanks
Trevor

You can always use a lighter bullet with heavier bullet data and IMO the wad isn't needed......in the Ken Waters "Pet Loads" book he recommends trimming 45-70 brass to 1.87" after FL sizing in a 45-60 die .For the 292gr bullet[Lyman 457191] 24-25gr of IMR 4198...work up loads carefully........Harold

Seyfreid uses the 40% rule for H4198

take the load of BP in grains VOLUME, and mutiply it by 0.40 to get WEIGHT of H4198

he recommends dacron fiber for a filler.

using that info, mbogo3's recommendation of 24-25gr is very close to Seyfreid
