When cleaning my .308 barrel I find it very hard to run it threw with a cotton patch and cleanong rod, sometimes having to really force it threw. Am I doing damage to the rifling by forcing it threw? Is it normal to have a lot of resistance when pushing threw a cotton patch and rod?

I checked my rod and accessories they are all the correct caliber, am I missing something here?

The size of the patch and what you place it over has to be factored in. The resistance shouldn't make you feel like you are about to have it jam in place or the rod bend. Can you use either a different size patch or jag to make it fit better?

Yea the rod is definatly bending from the force...going to have to find some different jag's i guess, they are just regular cotton patches, should that not be able to go threw pretty easily with the right jag?

Try trimming the patch to a smaller diameter or size if square. Or do you have a 30 cal bronze or nylon brush? Place the patch over that and see how it goes. Just don't use a strong copper solvent on a bronze brush. It will eat the brush and produce endless residue. It's fine for general nitro solvents.

I use wipe-out works pretty good, just worried about the rifling getting damaged from the force, thanks for the suggestions.

"...threw..." Where'd you throw it?
The size of the patch will have a lot to do with it. 2" x 4" works in .30 cal.
"...the rod is definitely bending..." .22 rod?
Cotton isn't going to do anything to even the mildest steel.

The size of the patch makes a difference. Try one that is smaller. Another trick I use is a nylon brush which is one size too small for the bore. I then wrap the brush with a cotton patch. It can give you a good fit and remove carbon and copper fairly quickly.
