My advise would be to take it to a gun smith and have it looked at, reason being if you need pipe clamps and hammers to install it then there is something wrong. Just how did you expect to ever get the thing off again if you would have succeeding getting it on there with a clamp and hammer?
Wasn't planning on taking it off, I have unscrewed it with a sheet of rubber and my hand so will pop it apart and see if it's something straightforward as to why it wouldn't slide down without a rubber mallet
Pics would be helpful. Were the set screws tight to the aluminum when you got it? If so maybe they raised a few small reverse divots which is stopping the brake from fitting down all the way. Use antiseize on the barrel before threading aluminum on to prevent galling and seizeing. Same thing between the brake and threaded sleeve. Other then that , take a good look for a raised hump on the threaded attachment or for projecting burrs on the brake itself. Was it turned straight and true? Maybe both are slightly oval and will only fit one way? Just some ideas here...
Sounds like the comp was cryogenicly put on the barrel. If that is the case you will need to freeze the barrel [ liquid nitrogen dip ] to put the the comp back on properly.
so the aluminum sleeve threads onto the barrel it didn't thread on properly so you threw some heat on it? Well it looks like you probably will need a new bushing sweat fits like the ones I make are a one shot deal. Why did you heat a thread to install? Thats kind of a machining nono were you instucted to do so, what was the class of fit? It probably swelled the bushing enough it pick up and then the fun starts. Heat the thing up nice and toasty and drop it in a bucket of water it might shrink the aluminum enough that it will tap out.
