hello

I got this snider enfield the other day and I was wondering if anyone knows what these markings are for. I know the DC but behind it there is a 1 or I or something and then the two numbers on the brass. its an 1860.

thanks!

Issued to 17th Batt of Infantry, Levis Quebec rack # 14. 17th had 8 companies and authorised strength of 392 in 1885.

"1" stamped on the buttstock indicates a "first class arm." according to my Snider Enfield book by Skennerton. A lower rating would be a 2.

The class stamp, 1,2 or 3, was below the roundel on the butt. This appears to be something else.
