Help With Dilon 650

Hello Everyone.
I need help with my dilon 650. I am making 45ACP. One out of every 30-40 rounds the primer gets put in sideways because the primer disc does not move enough to center the ne primer under the case. I have taken the whole press apart and cleaned it and set it back up by the book for timing and it still does it.

The other thing it is doing is every so often I get a primer upside down in the case. I have loaded them into the feed tube proper and also taken off the feed tube once it is loaded and check all the primers and they are placed in the right way. yet i still get one or two that are upside down in the case when they come out at the end of the cycle.

Is your machine bolted to a SOLID bench? In order for the 1050 Dillon primer system to operate reliably it must be bolted down to a solid bench with no vibrations, I suspect that is true for the 650 as well.

Replace the plastic primer magazine tube tip. Get some spares. This often solves primer feed problems.

Operate the machine smoothly.

Keep the primer feed system clean of any primer compound residue, especially when the machine is crushing primers. A primer magazine explosion is not a pleasant experience. I have the burst inner magazine tube from my magazine tube explosion over my bench as a reminder to always wear eye protection (I wasn't and was very lucky).

If none of this works call Dillon, or call them anyway, they are great.
 
That really sucks to hear... And I can't help ya here...

I have my 650 all set and I think it's sturdy enough. Can see just a little bit of tremble in the case feeder but I haven't loaded anything due to small primer shortage.

At any rate, just wondering something about exploding primers. So the primers are dispensed from the tube into the daisy chain wheel. I would think one primer explosion does not have enough power to set off the other primers in the daisy wheel, leading up to the primer tube. But I guess I am wrong in that thinking. I have read a bunch of primer explosion stories already. I guess I will be next in the future. Oh well.. C'est la vie.

My primer tube explosion was with my 1050 while loading .45 ACP about 1990. It would crush the odd primer, maybe one in two hundred, I would clear the pimer slide and continue loading. What I didn't notice was the residue from the crushed primers was building up unde the primer slide, I should have fixed the problem and cleaned the machine. When it crushed the first primer of the full magazine I reached around with my left hand to clear the slide and had just touched the slide when the magazine exploded. It wasn't crushing the primer that detonated the magazine, it was either friction or static electricity that set off the residue that had built up. The steel guard tube around the aluminum primer tube saved my eyes that day.
It was VERY loud and a piece of primer cup or anvil caught the corner of my right eye (guess who wasn't wearing eye protection?). I went into shock, lost consciousness briefly, went to emerge ( in Wiarton that is a twenty minute drive) doctor was concerned about possible detached retina and other damage, but I was lucky, no lasting injury.
I still use that machine today, still for .45 ACP, and haven't had another problem. BUT, when the primer feed doesn't work properly I FIX it, then clean the machine, and always wear eye protection when reloading.
The early 1050s primer slide was polished hardened steel, the new ones have teflon coating and are much less apt to cause friction or conduct static electricity.
If you have a problem with a primer feed don't try to muscle it through, find out why and fix it and clean out any primer residue in the machine before it can cause a problem.
I went on to aquire two more 1050s, .38 super and .223, as well as two 550s and two square deals and have never had another problem like that.
The burst primer tube is hanging on the cabinet above my loading bench as a reminder not to get careless.
I cringe when I see cheap loading machines with bare primer magazines of just aluminum or plastic which would become schrapnel if there was a detonation.
Just my $00.02 worth.

Thx for the info. Appreciate it very much. I`m trying to absorb as much potential dangers as possible. Knowing that it can blow up but understand why is the key.

I noticed no one mentioned that it's important to make sure you've got the large pistol primer seater installed. Even my buddy who's had a Dillon for years now didn't know there were 2 different seaters, small primer & large.

I experienced hiccups with .45 as well 'till I replaced the primer seater with the correct size. Check it out.
 
Sounds like it may be possible you have a small pistol primer pin seater, instead of the large one for 45. Also it possible your brass primer pockets are a little out of spec or something is loose on the machine.
