Hey there.
Not sure if this is the propper forum for this or it should go in the main battle rifle page but i don't really want a main battle rifle per say... I dunno.
anywho. I've got my precision rifle made, a bolt action Savage 308 that I had a new barrel put on, choate tactical stock, ammo reloads, 20moa rail, Vortex PST scope and all the other typical goodies (still missing bottom metal though) But the last two weeks I've finally started hitting 1043yds pretty reliably!
Now I want to start a "DMR" style rifle. I've been shooting for two years and this year with the help of my buddy who's a very good and experienced long range shooter I've started long range shooting myself.
So I'm aware of what’s involved in order to achieve any kind of fair range so I'm not that ####### who is gonna be "I want a semi auto 1000 yard tac driver that I can clear rooms with duurrrrrrrrrr!"
So I'm kinda looking to start a NON RESTRICTED semi auto build on the that'll handle well between lets say 300 yards to 800 yards? with the proper dope adjustment of course.
From what I know, there’s a few rifles in Canada that could be up for the task.
1: Robarms XCR-M
2: Kel-tec RFB
3: Norco m305
4: Springfield M1a
Are there any others that could be up for the task?
Now I have real reservations about using the "m14" platform. just the whole 7.62 x51 vs 308win thing is a real turn off. One half says they’re pretty much the same, another says their different enough to warrant caution. while when it comes to the rifle platform itself one group says "yea run both its fine but don't juice a 308 obviously" while there’s always one guy in those discussions that have said "yea my m14 blew up in my face when I used 308 and I almost lost an eye" for both the Norco and the M1A in these forums and American ones I've read a whole lot on it and still don't really like it. I'd just rather not have to "deal" with that situation. So the m14 platform for me is not really a go, don't like it.
So what has been your experience with either the RFB or the XCR?
has anyone on here pushed their range and what have they found in performance at range?
I like the compactness of the RFB A LOT! however I heard they can be sloppy shooters, I have an su-16 and it seems to be more accurate than me, so it's hard to tell if its the RFB that may have an accuracy issue or its the shooter in that situation.
I haven't really read much about the XCR-M all my googling takes me to the L model for reviews etc. what are guys able to achieve with that rifle? I like the modularity of the weapon. Does it have a bolt release or do you have to pull the bolt handle a little bit when it locks open?
What I like about both is that they seem to take a variety of 308 ammo, and all different kinds of reload recipes, without having that little m14 style arguments brewing in the back of your head.
Their priced fairly similar. but how is the performance between the two? I'd like to know what their capable of at further ranges, not so much their moa at 100yds but moa say at 500-800 yards (I know guys who can tac drive at 100 but put them at 300 and they lose their #### so I don't really take the moa at 100 as too much of a testament to what a rifle can do.
