The large circle is made up from a series of smaller dots, so they will flare out as well, when all them are so close together the whole thing looks one big red patch or I call it thumb print 
I am in the process of switching over to the new Vortex Spitfire 3X scope, beside the 3x magnification it also has a etched BDC reticle that is also can lit up in red or green.
