Hi,

2 questions - I have a new Gold Cup Trophy - doesn't have ambi safety and I'm a lefty. I was recently informed I could put one on. Does anyone have experience in doing this - ie: do they know of one that will work with the GCT (stainless as well), where can I find it, and is it difficult to do - I'm somewhat handy. Is there something for the mag release to make it ambi as well?

2nd question - I'm debating between a Glock 17 and 34 but wanted to know the implications on using the 34 in IDPA or IPSC possibly inthe future - I've been told it's a different class but don't know what the issue is.

Thanks for any help that can be provided.

Glock 34 is a compensated pistol, so you can't use it in the production division. As for your Gold Cup question, any ambidextrous safety designed for a 1911 will work with your gun. Wilson Combat and Ed Brown are two well-respected manufacturers of 1911 parts.

Check out Smith and Alexander's website for ambi-mag release. Yep all kinds of ambi safetys out there but they take fitting. If you haven't done it before you might want to buy two at once so you have something to put in after you over cut the first one:eek:

No it's not!

I dont think its on the production approved list due to barrel length though is it? Who would want to shoot standard with a Glock... although I have seen a few do this, just doesnt seem competetive.

Get the 17

Ed Brown makes really good ambi safeties, but there are quite a few others that are fine as well(STI,SVI,Wilson etc etc).Just remember that a safety is not a drop in part. You have to fit the small pad that blocks the sear, and if you dont do this right, you end up with an unsafe gun.Definitely a job for a gunsmith if you are not 100% certain what you are doing.Another small mod that you will also need to do is make a small relief under the right hand grip panel to keep the right hand part of the safety in place

I bought a Wilson Combat ambi for my GCT from Brownells. I'm a lefty, but decided to leave it off and sold it on the EE. I think the gun is fine without it.

The Glock 34 is the longer version of the 17 basically and it is perfectly legal for IDPA. Dragoon is correct, the cut out on the top of the slide is for weight.

As for your ambi-safety for your Colt, give Casey a call at Tactical Ordnance, he is local to the GTA, does great work and is a great guy to deal with. www.tacord.com

Smith & Alexander cannot ship to Canada nor can Brownells ship S&A product here as they have not applied for the export BS. I ordered an S&A magwell a few weeks ago and Brownells would not ship it.
