Hi All,
I have a lock n load AP press with Hornady case feeder and my first prototype DIY bullet feeder (the DIY bullet feeder is a work in progress and not as automatic or consistent as I would like but it is my first V1.0) and have been using a Lee auto disc powder measure as I cannot seem to get the PTX powder through expander die in the Hornady powder measure to flare the case enough that the bullet won't fall off the case when I cycle the press from the bullet feed die station to the bullet seating die.
Using the Lee auto disc I can easily get enough flare that this does not happen but would really like to use the Hornady powder measure for a bunch of reasons most important of which is making my favourite IPSC minor load of 3.4gr of titegroup (the Lee for some reason meters 3.6 which is way to hot for the 147 gr projectiles I am using). Reaso I am using the PTX is I need the space on station 5 for the FCD.
I have reviewed a couple of videos online but I am having difficulty following the way they adjust the die body and the only way I can seem to get the case to flare enough using the Hornady powder measure and PTX die would be to have the die body screwed down really low which limits the upper movement of the shell plate which I know is wrong.
I have lowered the upper part of the powder measure considerably loosening the two bolts that clamp it to the powder down tube but this is not working very well. Do I need to adjust the lower part of the die body clamp / bracket (sic?) so that it too lowers the powder measure tube? Sorry for the incorrect terminology.
Any first had users able to provide some insight as to how to adjust this properly?
Many thanks in advance
Marc
As an aside, other than this issue the press rocks and thus far loads about 100 rounds of ammo every 6 minutes or so without rushing. Huge improvement over the Loadmaster I used to have.
