I just picked up a used Rem 700 with this serial Number: RR27640G

I have already visited the webpage: https://www.remingtonsociety.org/manufacture-dates/

But still can't make sense of the nomenclature.

Can someone tell me what the date of manufacture is for my rifle?

The site i checked says 1944? But the 1st year for the 700 was 1962?

First letter is usaully the month of manufacture

As an example I have a SPS Varmint that begins with RR, but as we know it certainly doesn't follow the RR code of 1946 or 1968. Thus the second "R" would denote the year, which is 1997. Thereby making my particular model made in Nov 1997

Ie; RR###xx

Example of Letters to Months of manufacture:

B - 1
L - 2
A - 3
C -4
K - 5
P - 6
O - 7
W - 8
D - 9
E - 10
R - 11
X - 12

Knowing your model ie; ADL, BDL, CDL, SPS, VSSF etc will help narrow down the year range. A quick google search should produce a few threads from "thehighroad" forum which brakes down manufacture by year codes to help.

The RR is a serial number prefix, NOT the date code. You want to state the letters on the BARREL on the LHS ahead of the receiver. Two letters, same font likely stamped together

Any Remington barrel from 1942 to the present has 2each 1/8" hand stamped letters @ 3oclock(LH) or 9oclock(RH) forward of the receiver.
(30,40X,600,660,722,721,725,700,XP-100,XP-100R,XR-100,Seven)

Exception to this rule was 1999-2001 manufactured when the bbl date code was listed on the box label.

B-L-A-C-K-P-O-W-D-E-R-X..... is the first letter representing the month of manufacture.
B-January
L-February
A-March
C-K- etc etc etc

The second letter is the year of manufacture.

The above also includes any shotgun 870/1100/1187/1196 etc Bbl....
