Hi

I'm new to the board (today). Got into hunting in Alberta a couple of year ago (I'm 45) and loving it. Got a deer both years.

Bought my first gun nearly two years ago, it was sold as a Midland Sportster, it's a 30.06. Pretty good condition - used but ok.

It seems to shoot straight enough - I'm not a brilliant shot so I keep to within 100 yards, but I took both my deer with a single shot through the heart. I keep practicing and guess the eventually I'll increase the range which I'm comfortable with.

Does anyone know of anywhere where i could get some history on the gun, please? I'm kind of interested in it's history and would like to know more.

Any info appreciated!

Thanks

What todbartell says. I believe they were a smaller company owned by Parker Hale that made the same sporting rifles on commercial mauser actions made by FN. I believe the 'midland' was less fancy in finish but identical to the PHs in every other way.

If you do a search for 'parker hale midland' quite a bit of stuff comes up.

And ya, welcome to the site bignose :)

Is it a Midland 2100 or 2600? The Midland Gun Company was one of the older British houses, PH acquired the name and used it for an economy line of rifles. The design is a composite, using various available parts, assembled on a new receiver. The bolt is a slightly modified 03A3 Springfield, barrel a slightly modified '98 sporter, trigger mechanism a PH Mauser sporter with a different sear, trigger guard is a commerical '98 aluminum unit, stock is an Italian Sile, inletting is the same as a Mauser sporter. Receiver is original, to tie everything together.
