With the bolt close insert a cleaning rod into the barrel all the way to the bolt face and mark it at the muzzle and measure the total length it would be easy to know if the barrel was cut. I mean it is totally possible that it was dressed like that drone the start. With that said, I have a M71 Winchester from the first couple years of production with a muzzle like that, cut flat with no bluing left from years of going in and out of a scabbard. My buddy has one from ten years later and it is more rounded. So this one could be how they did it then. Seems unlikely someone would cut down the barrel. Of course, I can’t imagine doing that to the rear sight so who knows.
Yes, and a lot of Canadians don't seem to understand this. They also seem to be the same people who don't understand that condition is all-important in determining value. I have been offered heavily altered Mauser factory sporters, drilled and tapped, receivers ground down, sights ground off, bolt handles crudely altered or replaced, stocks sanded down or cracked and yet the seller fully expects to get the highest end USA dollar price. And they all claim to have an advisor friend who is a "gun expert." I tend to blame the half-knowledge of the internet.US prices have no connection to CDN prices. Totally different market.
