Help with lee neck size only die and primed brass

Hey all,

So I'm running my first batch of .308 once fired lapua brass through my lee neck sizer to load for a second time.

Run them through, prime them, fill with powder, go to seat the bullet and realize that the bullets are just dropping in the cases.

Obviously didn't neck size enough, if at all.

So two questions arise from this:

a) What adjustment do I have to make so that it increases the neck sizing? Screw it down more?

b) Is there a way to salvage my primed brass? Or do I simply fire off the primers and start from scratch?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

ST

i had the same problem with my 308 and 303 lee neck sizers, i tried taking the depriming pin out too but it made the case neck too small to seat the bullet. Try pressing a bit harder, it should ease up after a few cases and be easier to use. they just need some breaking in. i've only had this problem with the 30 cal dies, my 223 neck sizer barely needs any pressure.

If you are using the collet die then the decapping pin is also the mandrel that you squeeze the neck to to size it.

Just clean out your primer catcher and screw the die down a bit. Decap and resize the necks and re-insert the primers. They may go in a little looser than they did before since they have been squeezed into the primer pocket but they will still go bang just the same.

Yarg, I just pulled the pin/mandrel and gave a little extra push and it did "size" it. I then completed loading.

Bullets went in and have a minimum of runout.

Do you think it will turn out to be a problem that they were sized with no mandrel and should pull them?

Or just shoot and swear?

Duoh!!...ya you need the decapper pin in to size em right.

I believe that you didn't apply enough force when neck-sizing.
I had it happen with Lee collet dies.

As an emergency measure I used full-length sizing die with decapping pin removed, adjusted for neck sizing only (e.g. touch the shell holder and 1 turn back). The primers stay in place.
