Looking to scope my M14. I have an arms 18 mount on its way. I have pulled a Burris Fullfield II 3-9x40 off another one of my rifles. I am looking to keep the scope as low as i can without having it hit the rear sight. Looking for suggestions on what height or rings I need aswell as brand, style and best place to get them. Not looking to spend a fortune but want something descent.

Feel free to post pics of your m14 with arms 18 mount and scope.

I appreciate the help guys.

Good mounts need good rings. I'm using Leupold Mark 4's Med height. Remember each manufacture has different specs for Low / Med / High. I got mine through Brownells and it ended up cheaper for me to buy & ship than buying up here.

I'd be tempted to remove the rear sight as to allow you to mount the scope lower. One thing is make sure you have a decent scope on it... the M14 should be nicknamed "the scope crusher."

I figure the fullfied II should stand up ok.
Do the rings have to be specific to a picatinny rail or will any other rings fit aswell.

I thought about removing the rear sight but would like to keep it if I can. If it makes it so the scope is mounted too high then it can go.

What height are those rings?
I noticed you just removed the apature of the sight. That was my plan if i needed to make more clearence.
I am hoping to pick up a set of rings tomorrow at the sportsman show.

Weaver tip-off med height I like them because it is low over the axis of the bore. I'm using a Redfield 3x9x40 and it rocks best deal for the price! Now I have to paint the stock

Did you have to remove the apature to fit the scope with those rings?

Yes I did but it was real close and these rings are low I have the scope as far forward as posible if you move the scope back like most people it should fit with the sight

Picked up a set of Medium Millet rings from Lebarons. I was going to buy a set of Leupolds they had but the millets were almost identical.
