Just looked at a Model 71 Cooey chambered in 30/06 today and like all Cooeys it is a bit of a challenge to get info on. The rifle is in good shape although I didn't check the bore. After I got home I got to thinking about it and its worth. Anyone have any ideas? I realize it is a copy of a Winchester Model 70 just a bit less fancy. Thanks for reading.

Hi. They're a post-1961 made rifle. Mine is a .243. It's not quite a copy of an M70. More like a Win M710. The recoil lug is in a slightly different spot, for one. About 1/8" aft of where it is on the M70A. Black phosphated it, put a Win M70A stock on, bedded it and did a trigger job, long ago. Looks better than it shoots. Shoots a consistent 'minute of deer' with my handloads.
Saw a value somewhere. Don't remember where, of course. $350 to $400ish, as I recall.
Parts are few and far between. Some Win M70 parts will fit, but not many. Mind you< I've only ever had to replace the extractor. Busted the extractor and ended up at W.R. Long, in Cobourg, when Mr. Long Sr. was still alive. He took it into his shop, replaced the extractor and told me it had had bad headspace. Fixed it all for $40. Long time ago now.

I just got one off of my uncle, its a 30-06 that's been highly modified, with the barreled action being slimmed down, and a custom stock installed. Mine shoots very well, concidering, when I was picking it up, my uncle said it never shot all that well, and my dad reiterated the same. I just threw together some loads, and started banging out 1,25" groups.
I would say that for a stock rifle don't pay any more than $300.00; ther good guns, but I would say that there not worth much more than that...........and no, they are not winchesters 710; more like the 788.
The model 71 has a cilindrical reciever, a trigger mounted safety, and is shorter than a model 70. It may share an extractor with a post 64 winchester, as well as the bolt stop, but that is where the simularities end.

I have several, and love them! They are almost all shooters, without any tweaking. And I have a couple that shoot sub 1/2 MOA at 100 yards after glass-bedding and recrowning. $3-$400 is a fair price range depending on condition.
