Hi there. I'm picking up a Remington 700P and since I'm new to this game I'm looking for advice regarding choice of mount for this rifle.
I currently have a Bushnell 3200 Mildot set in a set of ARMS #22 medium rings. I've been using this set up with the ARMS #18 mount on my M14, and plan to use the same scope on this 700P since its the only one I own at this time. I'm not a fan of buying cheap stuff but not a fan of paying simply for a name either. Are there any top quality mounts out there that I can simply swap my scope from the M14 over to the 700P and lock it down with the cam levers? I'm assuming that there are picatinny mounts available for the 700P but would like to get some expert opinions before I go out and buy.
Thanks,
AG.

The problem you may have is with eye relief and properly shouldering the rifle. If the ARMS #18 base is a Picatinny, which I assume it is, I am under the impression that slots would be cut evenly between the bases and the scope will just swap over. The only thing is if slots land the scope in a spot where you have to move the scope for proper eye relief, you could have a problem. I have my rifle set up right now so that when I close my eyes, shoulder the rifle, and open my eyes, I am looking directly down the scope with proper eye relief.

The other problem you will have is that you will have to re-sight the scope every time you swap it between rifles. If you keep the numbers on the adjustments it should come in pretty close, but you will always be adjusting it.

If you decide this is what you want to do, you could go with a base made by Near, Ken Farrell, or TPS; I have a TPS 20 MOA canted base on my 700 and I have no complaints yet.

Cheers,

Corey

We stock TPS, Warne, and Farrell bases. The TPS steel bases 0 moa are $90 and 20moa are $95 plus ship and gst.

I would say they (TPS) are the best bank for the buck and high quality.

Again for now, I will have to swap the Bushnell 3200 over to the 700P but eventually I'll be picking up a dedicated scope for each rifle. I guess what I'm wondering is, if I go with a picatinny mount for the 700P right now, will I be giving up anything later on down the road. Should I just buy a new mount and new rings for the 700P now, and leave the ARMS #22 rings idle for the time being, untill I pick up another scope?
what are the pros/cons of going with a picatinny mount for the 700P over a conventional mounting system?
Thanks,
AG.
