I was looking at installing an adjustable rear sight on my NP29 and was wondering if anyone can tell me what cut the dovetail is, I am planning to get replacement sight but see things like Novak cut etc just want to do direct replacement without having the slide modified any help would be appreciated.

The rear sight dovetails on mine are like a 1911A1.
Front sight is single tenon.
Sights intended for USGI should be workable.

Fitting might be required for the rear sight. Not unusual when friction fit dovetails are involved. Replacing the front sight does require a bit of work, and a swaging tool. If an adjustable rear sight is installed, the front sight may need to be changed.

The front sight isn't a problem as it is dovetailed and I plan to replace it and the one on my .45 with fiber optic ones

The front sight is the only problem. It is a non-standard dovetail (small). Buy what ever front sight you like and gunsmith will have to mill the dovetail wider to fit.

The rear dovetail is standard Colt 1911. Everyone makes a sight to fit.

Yes, the later NP29s had dovetailed front sights. Earlier ones had Colt style staked ones. Small, low, with a rear sight to match. Replacement sights are a definite improvement.

Has anyone ever found a front sight that would fit on later NP29s small dovetail ?? or at least one that can be sanded down to fit without milling into the dovetail?

Got my NP29 yesterday .. Was hoping to get an answer since last post hehe :p .. Anything that fits or close fit that needs little adjustment in the front ..

Thanks

Suggest you take some measurements and check online. I have found sights on many sites you just have to have you original sights size.

Should be easy. If you do find one please post what site you found it on. I may want to do that to mine. Although mine is fine out of the box.
